OK:
  • You obviously didn't look very hard because this has been covered many times.
  • This is in the wrong section
  • You are using TXT talk.
So I've moved your post to an existing thread and deleted the original one.

Steve, if your oil is only getting to 90C, a 10w-40 or 5w-40 would be a better choice.

Potentially an oil that is too thin when hot can cause the most damage as that is when you can get engine failures. For most people the overly thick oil is more likely to be a problem as most engines don't get too hot.

Perrin, not sure why it's recommending a 10w-60 in the FAQs, I wouldn't suggest that.

What is the best oil for the rear Diff? Is it the same as the gearbox oil?
Hi

Depends what's in the gearbox. The gearbox should be using a 75w-90 GL4 and the diff a 75w-90 GL5 or SAE90. Some GL5s are okay in the gearbox, but others can lead to rough changes.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-673-75w-90.aspx

If you want to go for the best, the Millers CRX 75w-90 NT, Motul Gear 300, Redline MT90 and Millers TRX are ideal (except the MT90 is no good for the diff, go for the Redline Gl5 instead). The Castrol Syntrax, Motul Motylgear and Fuchs Gear Syn are all decent alternatives.

i've just replaced the engine oil (pro s 10w 50) with Silkolene PRO 4 Plus 10w-50 bike oil as local fuch dealer had no pro s in stock but said are virtually identical. is this ok?
i also used Silkolene SILKTRAN SYN 5 75W-90 for gearbox, transfer and rear diff, is that ok also?

Yes, the Pro 4 Plus is absolutely fine in a car. As long as the Syn 5 doesn't crunch in the gearbox (as can sometimes happen), it's spot on.

It's pretty good stuff, but Mobil have discontinued it. We've got a little left, but once it's gone, it's gone.
