serious Problem

well i tried to get the cylinder off but i cant see any way of getting the pin out that connects to the clutch fork, when i was having a nosey at the mechanism i noticed quite a bit off play in the piston area when releasing the clutch the piston does not go all the way back into the cylinder, if you know what i mean, i have to push the clutch fork back. is there usually a bit of play in the slave cylinder or is it suppose to be solid?

Depends where you take it to. A guy off the forum who knows his was around the car £350ish upwards. Any old back street garage - I wouldn't risk it.

Where are you in the country?

im in evesham, just moved down here from scotland so i dont the area very well, there is a nissan/peugeot specialist in town who i was going to drop it in to, or powerstation in tewkesbury but i think thats too far to drive the car in its condition, 350ish was that parts included or just labour as i hear pulsars are a knightmare to do the clutch

That's just the labour; it's going to be about the same again for an entire clutch kit.

If the slave cylinder is OK; how is the master cylinder?
Any signs of obvious leaks? Look specifically at the carpet behind the pedals because that will soak up a lot of clutch fluid and make it quite obvious.

everything is nice and new around the carpet area no visible leaks, i think the launch just broke something, hope its not the box

Like we said, plenty of stock replacement boxes around the forum matey. You would save yourself a lot of money having a go yourself. Look at it this way, at least you can uprate your clutch now?

P.s. Welcome to Gtir ownership.......

i wouldnt know where to start taking the gearbox out, helped do it with my honda but this looks a little out my league, lack of tools and space is another issue, gutted something this serious has happened within 2 weeks, so what are my options clutch wise? im not running very many mods and dont intend to get silly bhp numbers out of it, just a bit of reliability and strong enough to take a bit of a beating now and again lol

i thought of just a standard exedy clutch and is a 2nd hand uprated clutch worth it and ill need a ri'd clutch fork also?

cheers for the help folks very much appreciated

helix organic
Seconded. - Like the man says, you get what you pay for.
You're probably allright with a genuine Exedy, but they themselves say it's the most knocked-off clutch on the market so unless you've bought from a registered dealer you can't really be sure.

For reference. Helix:

Exedy:

I think that actually failed because it got soaked in clutch fluid. - I think the cover plates (which look pretty similar) are both made by Daikin, which is Exedy anyway.

My first Exedy one failed after 16 months due to the clutch plate cracking and spring popping out, got another which was an improved version(has 6 springs instead of 4?) and done about 25,000 miles on it so far. Im only running circa 270hp though. Will invest in a better one again when it does give up...

yeah i dont think im running that much power anyway, i noticed the helix was coming in at £455 + vat which is a bit out of my budget, £380 is max i can go to which leaves genuine exedy stage 1, exedy stage 2 paddle or ap racing organic clutch?, im assuming i will have to buy the strengthened clutch fork when i uprate the clutch or is this only a concern for bigger power cars etc?
