another trackday!
and first time out with my new car
i would love to say WOW what a brilliant day but unfortunately not:sad:
first prob came day before i was setting off as noticed a load of water in oil catch can (after the rolling road session) so h/g was blowing but wasnt too bothered as the engine was an unknown quantity straight from the nme car we had but thought it would survive the day which it did.
next big problem became apparent on the sighting laps in the morning as theres a downhill gradient entering the track...thought i could smell fuel and sure enough yes i had littered the pitlane with fuel so never got to do the sighting laps.....it appears theres a hole at the top of the tank somewhere out of reach which only leaks when the cars on a gradient.
so had to lose over half a tank of fuel before it would stop enough for me to get car on track:doh: worst still it was running straight onto the exhaust wrapping under car so was a real fire risk, but we eventually got out anyway.
done one session in the morning and car was absolutely flying (there was nothing that could get near it) but one thing i did notice is that the huge camber its running makes car very very twitchy to the point of being dangerous.
car also has serious rubbing issues on rear, ive destroyed a good set of tyres:sad:
i really need to alter my driving style to suit the car as you must do braking on a perfect straight line....if you try to brake with the slightest of turns on the steering it will lock up the front end into a skid.
this became very apparent in the afternoon when it started raining lol i almost had a bad off through the wooded section by dabbing the brake just before hairpin.
the engine management light also came on so put ecu into safe mode so car dropped a lot of power, couple this with the extreme twitchiness.....leaves a lot of work still to do on this car to get it right.
still the unforseen probs keep haunting me, i really do believe now that im jinxed with any track car, they are always things that break which you could never find till you get on a circuit then its too late as your days as good as over.
still il keep plodding on though
ive some in car footage of dans car but its not come out too well as camera was mounted too high up so can only really see the bonnet and a bit of track in front but i may download it later.
one thing i will say though is that ed has got the mapping spot on....seeing as car had blown h/g and in morning before the management light came on.....the thing was pulling like a train with virtually no lag what so ever which was the setup ive always been set on achieving.
once i get all the gremlins sorted it will be a very quick car im sure of it.
think dan had a good day despite a blow in his manifold, his driving and car setup was very good (much better than last year at cadwell) you would never think it was the same car or driver so hats off to him
