weak idle

as some of you may know ive fitted a pulsar engine into my almera, now the car runs but like a bag of crap on idle, the emissions are way out, hydrocarbons are at 0.6

when you hold the revs at about 2000rpm the engine runs sweet as a nut, has any one had any simerliar issues with the pulsar engine

a few things to note,

there is no cat on the car

the engine has a almera temp sensor this is so the guage works correctly, but does it pass a signal via the ecu?

a few possible causes that we can think of up to now are as follows

the shims need setting up correctly as they where done when the engine was cold by the engine builder, so hence either not staying open for long or staying open to long

is it possible that the throatle bodys arent set up correctly

and only other thought is that the airflow meter is ****ed

having never worked on one of these engines befor any help would be greatfull

cheers

I would be looking at vaccum leaks if your idle is shite but its runs nicely at 2000 rpm.. by the time you hit 2000rpm, any vacuum leak is going to be insignificant compared the amount of air that will be flowing (that will depend on how open the throttle is of course).

What about - timing, spark plugs/spark, fuel pressure ?

spark plugs are brand new.

fuel presure, the car has an uprated fuel pump in it, but surely if it was a fuel pressure problem it wouldnt run right at all?

well we have found out that the cam timing is 2 teeth out, just hoping that its not done any damage to the valves or the pistons for that matter.

if its just 2 teeth out then it will not have done any damage!
