ok at the start: when the clutch was done ages ago mike noticed the master crank was bent and out of shape.... this started causing the belt to slip which i tightened and now slips again....
now i dont know if that has any relevance but today/this morn came to work and the boss noticed loads of smoke comming from the car ova the fin mainly... i turned of engine and opened bonnet smoke was comming from where the pulleys are not to sure where exactly...
i started her up again and oh dear the engine sounds like the tappetts have gone really rattle the engine wont idle properly went to 2000 then violently down to 1500 up again and then settled got smoke from exhaust and the oil temp was nearly max.... oh **** any ideas?????????[:(][:(][:(][:(][:0][xx(]

im not really sure if i fully understand what you are trying to get at, like the bent crank?

Anyway, whats your oil level at? its possible you had a leak, and ran low on oil, the oil in there overheated, got to thin, failed to lubricate and knackerded your engine (worst case)

As the oil filter is near the pulleys, maybe an oil leak onto the downpipe?

that sounds like what happened cos the engine is cold and fine now the master pulley is bent does not go around properly it wobbles
dont know how this happened i possible got oil leak out of the pulley bearing might of gone....

how will i know engine is dead[:D][xx(][:0][:(]oh failed to mention that wen i turned the engine off it sounded like there was a air leak from where the pulleys r

I'm not being funny but its like reading Sweedish reading that post.

Are you saying the crank is bent!!!!!

Sounds like you've run her out of oil, if it is the crank that's bent which i
find very hard to believe then its prob worn out the end crank seal and dropped
the oil over time.

Is there oil on the bottom of the engine?

Just a note, if the end of your crank is bent i'd like to place my condolances
as you must be the unluckiest person in the world!

In the crank pulley there is a rubber moulding that takes up the
shock load of the air con and when the rubber is shagged the whole thing wobbles and looks like the pulley is bent Mike exgtir will confirm this[;)]

sorry mate its not bent it wobbles when going around which is making the belt squeal...
i know it needs replacing just not got around yo doit ...
i checked the dip stick and there is plenty of oil[?][?][?]
there is a bit of oil around the area not dripping or anything tho
i assume its leaked out of that area can only b the logical answer..
but should i put some moe oil in the top or what.[?]
engine seems fine no loss of power so i think she is ok fingers crossed
i assume the air that im hearing is from the pulley seals etc

Not sure what your saying[?]
buts its not your water pump thats fecked is it[?]as when the bearings collaspe it will cause the pulley to wobble and the belts to slip/squeal and smoke, will also cause the engine to overheat with probably the oil temp showing up first.
Whats your coolant level like[?]

like turblio said the rubber custion inside the pulleys knackered told him this 2 months ago (you know what people are like fix it when it breaks)[:D] if that oil seal behind the pulleys goes normally p1sses out as thats where the oil pumps located

so why did my car go up in smoke[?][?]
i understand if the oil went too thin cos of heat... but why did the oil get to hot all of the sudden.. is iy because i got a slight leak from the pulley[?][?] i dont understand why..
my coolant level is ok keeps getting really hot tho the water in the expansion tank/overflow boils like a kettle...
my oil level is fine too...

What sort of somke was it? Steam, Oily or burning rubber? Is your water pump on the same belt? it could be slipping and not driving the water pump properly, if at all. If your temps are going way high, you might have blown a head gasket or just have something leaked onto a hot bit and be burning off.

i dont know if it is on water belt i find out its the master crank pulley! without air con!
how can i tell it has blown a head gasket[:0]
i think it was an oily smokethe thing is its fine now apart from pulley obviously[:0]
i went for a little ride the car got to running temp and again the oiltemp went sky high[:0] go u think replacing the pulley will solve the prob[?]

cmon peeps help me out here is it water pump thats making my oil temp ga sky high afta 5mins or is it the pulleey or engine shagged

Sounds likely that your water pump is shagged - which may have been brought about by your dodgy crank pulley. But unless you're considering doing all the work yourself, wouldn't it be wiser to take it to a decent garage and have it inspected...

yeah going to have to just wanted to get some info 1st so i know myself...
just got the aa out they said bugger all told me to take it to garage cos of possible early signs of engine failure[:(]
does the water pump cool the oil then[?] would it be anything like an oil blockage in filter maybe[?]
smoke only come out of the cars exhaust when the temp gets hot and its a definate oil smoke and the engine sounds reallt tappety[:(][:(]
would the water temp gauge go up too
cant afford this sh##

the water pump doesn't cool the oil it just circulates water to the cooler and if the water isn't getting to the cooler then the oil will very quickly get hot (ask Jamesw[:(])
the engine will sound bad because the engine oil is so thin because its getting so hot so loses its lubrication qualities also with the oil being so thin it can bypass the rings etc which wil then cause smoking.
As Kev said you'd be best of getting it to a garage/specialist and soon as this soon exactly like what happened to Jamesw's car and it destroyed the engine/turbo etc in the end[:0]
Also James car never got hot on the engine temp gauge but the oil was always running very hot.

Seized water pump/ broken off blades.? Does the pulley rotate when running is there any noises from water pump? Do the cooling fans work?

cheers guys sounds exactly what is happening..
the intercooler fan is working dont know if any outher fan is working sorry...
the pulley does go around just wobbles and makes a terrible noise which u can hear from inside the cab
ive given it to a garage quite a good one told them to fix the pulley and check oil pump and water pump...
but if deff the water pump then ill phone them now
so how much is a water pump where to get one from and do i get a standard one or an uprated afta market one if there is any point[?]

I hope you realise that to change the water pump and oil pump is almost definitely an engine out job. I've never heard of uprated oil and water pumps - so yes standard. You may be able to save a small bit, by purchasing just the oil pump gears instead of the whole unit

IIRC
Water pump ~ £30-40
Oil gears ~ £80
Oil pump(inc gears) ~ £150
Pulley ?

Do you have aircon? If so you may have cabbaged that
Also get them to check the powersteering pulley for any wobble
