I read a post on Yahoo Groups which suggested it could be hairline cracks in the Turbo Housing that can sometimes cause the car to hold back. Read on.

This is pasted direct from there, hope he doesn't mind.

Hi,your cars syptoms are exactly like mine was. After two years of trying to
discover why there was this lack of power even tho the turbo was working,at
last I have found out the answer & its something all GTi-R owners need to be
aware of.

My car is currently being worked on by the technician who assembled the
engines for the original Nissan WRC team & he advises that a problem many
the WRC cars suffered from were hairline cracks in the turbo housing. As the
turbo gets hotter the minute cracks open & the power zaps away! When the car
cools down the cracks close & are invisible. The solution is to have your
turbo housing examined & if cracks are found then a replacement housing
sorts it.The technician works for QM Engineering, who employ several former
Nissan WRC engineers. They are Ex-directory though.

Regards, Nick Richardson
Hope that helps :).

If the turbo was cracking wouldnt it loose boost in the higher part of the rev range to.
Could be the actuator. Will test it out today and post my results.

Cheers, unfortunetly doesn't fit for me, my car holds back when engine is colder. when boost has been used a bit and engine is warmer it's ok, but if i cruise for a while off boost, even if i've been driving for an hour or whatever, when i use boost again: same problem...

Standard boost gauge is reading 14 pounds
the standard doesnt go up2 14psi :?

and 14psi isnt standard boost!
What? You mean your standard gauge doesnt go to 14? That doesnt mean they all dont my friend! Mine is a UK spec. I well know that 14pounds isnt standard boost, but what I meant when i said the boost was standard was that it hasnt been adjusted in any way.

Mine is going well again anyway after a set of plugs, leads and a dissycap.

Right update. Took the intercooler off again and then looked at the oil vapor pipes that every1 was on about removing in a different thread. Two had splits in them and were leaking. Done as the other thread said and removed them then followed the instructions. Car now runs a lot sweeter BUT>
Boost has lowered itself to .8 from 1bar before. Just a bit confused. :? :?
