To the people who have the bumpsteer kit fitted to there car.

Ive had mine fitted for over a year now and they are worn to the point that they rattle when driving over bumpy ground and the car wanders
all over the place bacause of the slack, its definatly the track rod ends and not the rack.

how long should they last? i know they dont have seals i thought the P.T.F.E is hard wearing and is meant to keep them clean but at £200 and they have only lasted just over a year is poor  .

I wish i had keep my standard nissan ones, least they wernt as worn and they are 10 years old.

Your not the first to have this problem there have been a few others to iirc will be interesting to see what the response will be :?:
If they replace it with another one or if you decide to buy another kit Demon tweeks sell seals for rose joints to keep dirt out etc for a couple of pounds that should stop excessive wear.

Is it the rose joint that has play in them or the shafts that go into the hub. I had rose jointed suspension on my mini and the only way I could make them last was to fit the rubber boots over them and buy good quality rose joints. I aslo packed the ubber boots with grease all in a effort to keep grit and dirt out of the rose joint.

i looked on tweeks web site and could not find them are they in the book

with rose joints there are so many grades the cheeper they are the shorter time they last.

I had this problem after a year - get in touch with Powerstation and they will help you out. I took my car in to be checked, but they said I could just send the rod ends down to be looked at.

Does your rack sort of clunk when you turn the steering rapidly left & right, you can also feel it through the pedals? Mine does this but PS and 2 MOT places reckon its ok - Nissan reckon £700  for a new'un.

even if they are worn you dont have to replace the whole thing the rose joints are a seperate part and can be replaced on their own at about 1/4 of the price that powerstation charge.
best thing to do is take out rose joint and take them to a bearing specialish and get a higher grage of rose joint. racing spec joints are about £25.00 each. one's made in germany seam to be some of the best

I took them apart to get some replacement rod ends cause the ones that are fitted to the bumpsteer kit are about £12  and shagged.

Demon tweeks have got some better ones for about £30 each the only problem is the misalign angle on the uprated ones are only 12degrees where as the cheap ones fitted are 20degrees so dont know if the will foul up on the hub arm during suspention travel.

P.S.if you take the bumpsteer kit apart there is about 15mm of thread holding them in  so i put my standard rod ends back on and the rattling has gone.

but the bumpsteer is back!!!!

thats why they only lasted a year at £12.00 eash thats the cheap end of market the ones iam using are double that .
there is also about 11/2" of thead being used.
the pin shaft is 14mm dia nice and heavy units

Hi
Did you fit the kit yourself or did powerstation fit them. The reason I ask is that depending how lower than standard your car is the bearing can rub on the support arm due to the angle the rack is at. A washer under the rose joint stops this. Also with mine I bought some large dia shrink wrap heavily greased the whole unit and then shrink wrapped it cutting a hole out where it mounts.Been ok so far over one year on. if they did fail however I would think Powerstation would help you with new ones.
