Team GTIR - TOTB 2017

I'm curious to know whether people would like to field a team for 2017? (yes I know I've written 2017)

The reason I ask is that I'm noticing people seem to be "beavering away" in their garages, cars are being prepared, power improvements made or/and bodywork being dealt with.

Since I don't see much competition (and very little development) from GTiR owners anymore apart from people going to trackdays, I thought we'd look at putting a team together for TOTB and see what we can bring to the table?

I'm really looking at 2017 so that it gives everyone PLENTY of time in advance to think about it, prepare, test, develop and then compete in 2017.

We do have quite a few decent cars hidden away that never seem to see the light of day or get any real use (or certainly not publicised) and would be nice to get a load of us together and have a great weekend out and see what we can do, competitively.

I don't care what forum we come from, but it would be nice for a bunch of us to come together for one weekend and make an effort to do something for the GTiR brand.

All you long standing members that hardly post anymore I'd like you to dust off the keyboard cobwebs and post up what you think too?

I want EVERYONES opinion about this, tell me I'm mad, tell me to shut up, tell me your interested, it just seems that the development and love for GTiR's is almost non-existent

May as well have a crack at this, my car may well even be finished by 2017

If I tow the 'R on my Audi, I presume it's OK to use it to compete when the 'R breaks down

You have to register cars that run, so to run the Audi you'd need to enter twice.

A few addtional point : you will need prove to TOTB that your car has has a valid MOT and valid road tax or proof it's declared SORN.
(I think you need to bring your log book too, but don't quote me on that, it's normally in the entrance form notes)

Anyone wanting to complete needs to provide a decent/powerful package to the event as you'll be competing against 500bhp+ Evo's, Scoobys as well as 900bhp+ GTR's.

There is no official BHP minimum requirement to compete in TOTB however taking a 280/300bhp GTiR won't be competitive and you'll be eaten alive!

If you can drive well you could show them what the Gtir dose well and kick arse back on the handling course or not ? Last time I was there was a few big power cars and the drivers were shit on handling course

Yes, there are definitely some people that only target one section; usually it's the straight line speed (so 1/4 mile and top speed) and they're not interested in trying to go around corners on the handling course.

From memory the GTiR can get off the line like shit off a shovel... but the bigger cars tend to reel it in once they're moving.

Thats me out too lol, but i think a well setup R may struggle with a well set up scoob or evo on the handling track, I remember going to TOTB 2 many moons ago

Our best chance at competing is with well set up handing cars.

I remember Stu(?) competed a few years back in his blue GTiR.

In the morning he was right up there with the Evo's and Scoobs, however as the afternoon went on he dropped down the list as people just had more power

If your "handy" behind the wheel then don't be afraid to put yourself forwards, I'm just pointing out that if you want to do well you'll also need a bit of power to help you along!

I'll probably be up for this! I entered 2014 and went to watch last year as my mate entered in his Renault 5 turbo. I may even enter this year to be honest too!

I'd love to but just don't have the time just now, plus my car won't be ready for this year, probably won't be ready for next year either lol

Whats the handling course like? Had a look at the prev. times and classes and it suggests its a pretty open course.

You won't crash, it's just an airfield with lots of small cones so there's nothing to crash into!

Crashing isn't the issue, more about whether an 'R can be competitive against what'll be fielded that day. Looks like the classifications are pretty loose - FWD, RWD, 4WD and 'Drag', no capacity limits. Last year a 9.5s standing quarter 2.3l Focus came 6th on the handling course in the 4WD class running 40-odd seconds and some change.

You won't win!! Lol! Unless your running 8 second or less quarters and you have can then completely set up for handling too, different tyres, adjusting/bolting on wings etc etc! But on the plus side, it's a good weekend out!

I doubt my car will be ready as I am fitting a sequential gearbox and new diffs to stop me breaking drive train parts, also building a new engine and fitting new suspension.
