Even one for a SR20DET which is similiar in design to the black big power R that i remember seeing pics of in Japan.

The idea of mounting the turbo to the sides of the engine bay has been used for a while by the Ford boys and also WRC. The guy the has the 178mph Fiesta uses a manifold like this.

Also, check out the cast side-winder.

A Lancia Delta S2 springs to mind  although they had some funky way of switching the power over to just the turbos once they where spooled up enough.

I remember reading up on it once when I was intrested in Lancia's, Im sure they used some kind of clutch system. :?

Well, its been done before so keep looking for someone to do it, would make the GTIR an awsome machine making use of those lower RPMs.

the mazda rx7 fd uses 2 turbos that work one at a time. you might be able to use the system from that to swap from the sc to the turbo.
a clutch on the sc would be good too. so that there isnt any draw on power once you dont need the sc anymore.

good luck!
