Short Shift Gear Lever Kits

I was driving along in my 'R the other day on the way home from Santa Pod when a tricked up Punto Turbo over took me on slip road, I pulled out to give chase and was in second gear, Went to go in to third and the whole gear lever inside the car came off in my hand, it appears to have sheared off right at the ball at the bottom.
Anybody had this before?
Any recommend where I can buy a new kit as I don't know where this one came from as it was on the car when i bought it. Couldn't believe it... Had to be towed home by the AA!!!

Also I hope you didn't let the AA tow your car on the road :?: ,it should of been picked up on a lorry because you can damage the diff's  .

It's ok to tow it for a mile or two at low speed but no more than that and def not just on two wheels inless they removed the propshaft first.

A few people have had this happen, I think it's been the one made of alloy that shears. Was yours?

if u wanna make sure u buy a quality short shifter, buy the B&M one and not those replicas.

i havent heard anything bad from B&M yet.

yeah it was an alloy one that broke, looks like a real cheap and crappy kit, where is the best place to buy a B&m one?

You can tow it slow on all 4 wheels but never just the front or rear 2 as it will wind the diff's up  .

Could somebody give me a detailed explanation of why it can only be towed slowly on all four wheels?

No not really matey, I'm just repeating what the nice AA man told me when mine broke down, He would only tow me a couple of mile's at 30mph just to get it off the road and somewhere safe, For the lorry to pick up  .
