Rewiring the Cigarette lighter

Brought myself one of the G-tech meters to plug into my cigarette lighter and tit doesnt work on my car, which leads me to believe that the lighter socket needs a better +ive supply as the meter works fine in another car. Where can i get a decent 12V supply from, i cant use the stereo as ive already taken a spur off the lighter to supply that :!: :!:
Could i use the light circuit or the heater controls? if using the heater control which wire is the positive to save me checking each one :!:

is the wiring screwed or is it a case of a missing fuse :shock:

would i still be able to run the headunit if i was missing a fuse :?: if so then where abouts can i find the location for the fuse :?:

Make sure the lighter is connected too. When I had that panel off last, I forgot to reconnect the wiring to the back of the lighter.
