Knock on Rear Diff

Evening playmates,
I`ve noticed for a while now that my rear diff knocks when load is being applied quickly (i.e. changing gear). Only once until the load is applied then its fine.

Its most noticeable when going from forward to reverse, i.e. the slack being taken up in the system.

Is this normal? Just wondered as i`ve not really paid any notice to it until i`ve took out my sound deadening (i understand it`ll be louder but just wanted to check whether its normal)

Thanks in advance,
Ollie

check to see it's not a CV joint or the splines on the hub / drive shaft.

for the hub/shaft, just take them apart and grease with a heavy grease (eg copperslip for example)

Sounds like a touch of "wind-up" in the gears... I don't know if it's a big problem; I've never noticed it on my R, but I've had that on other RWD cars before without any problems.

ok guys i`ll check.
I`ll get it jacked up and check joints / grease up etc.

Sure it seems to be coming from the diff though.

Process of elimination as always.

Cheers,
ollie

Mine doesn't make any noises .. i had this on my GT-Four and it was diff mounts that had gone.

Ollie are you back from the land of the rising sun now?
