compression

did a ompression test today and got


1:140psi
2:140psi
3:140psi
4:145psi

is this good or bad i noticed most peoples were up in the one fiftys and sixtys

Mine were all about 160 psi across all 4 cylinders but i dont reckon you've got anything to worry about there :wink:

Their all pretty even, which is the main thing.

Don't think anyone really mods the head, and cams shouldn't affect the compression. Different pistons could affect the C/R but TBH I'd look at the head gasket - there are several thicknesses easily available which would definately make a difference.

On the upside - lower compression = more boost :D :D

ive got a compression test receipt from when teh previous owner had it (shortly after import)

think mines been rebuilt then

cos this receipt shows wayyyyyyyyy less than 140 across all 4

that was 2yrs ago thou and had no worries with teh engine 8)

hay matty- it may have low comp pistons or h/gasket, and runnig std boost like you do would explain things! :wink:
put it up and over 1 bar!

ok cheers for that it has got a metal head gasket on it an apexi one quite thick it was done about a year ago

my compression is somin silly like 112 across the board ?

ideas?

You must have low compression pistons or a head gasket thats the thickness of an encyclopedia :D

maybe 2mm then. dont assume you have both :roll: take a spark plug out and shine a torch down there and look :!:

Student hands, never swung a spanner their life imo :lol: probably a few minor calouses from all the typing and clicking. as for getting DIRTY pmsl...i was halfway through putting his wheels on for him and i thought like WTF AM I DOING! had too finish em off though didnt like the idea of 2 of his wheels being torqued up to 15lb ft... bless him :lol:

just a note- different cams WILL affect your compression depending on how wild they are.

I know of an mk1 escort with fomula ford spec motor that only managed 120 -125 all round within 5000kms of the build. It had 10.5:1 compression but the compression test showed bugger all.

This is mainly cause all your valves are open for a longer duration. Just something to keep in perspective with warm+ motors
