Advice needed on set up (£400- £500 budget)

Hi,
This is the first time I have decided to go with an amp, components and sub set up and really dont have much idea about car audio.

I have a budget of £400-£500 and require strong, punchy and tight bass with crystal clear vocals and treble. I listen to music like Tupac, Bone Thugs, DMX, EMinem and so on.

From what i have learned by reading through previous posts is that 6x9's are not worth going for if you have a sub and it is beter to go for components at the front. (am I right).

I already have a head unit ( Pioner DEH P7500mp ) not the best < i know, but it will do for now.

Do you think ther budget is ideal and what would be the best set up to go for. If you require any further information please ask.

Thanks for your help guys, much appreciated

Have a look at caraudiosecurity.com Don't do the usual www !

They have a number of set ups to use. I have just bought a Pioneer 12" and Crunch sub package for £135, that includes the wiring kit and enclosure. I'm extremely pleased with it and it sounds like it would be perfect for your sound needs !
As for components, I would go for the Alpine 171 sps, I think that's what they are called !? They are £75 on this sight and are very good indeed. They should also be fairly easy to fit as they come with an adapter plate. That leaves you with money for mods !!!

Hope this helps.

I love infinty components, but they're not to everyones taste.

For tight base you'll need a 10 inch sub, or decent 12, but going by the type of music you listen to a 12 would be your best bet - reasonably punchy (more so that a 15, but still capable of long low notes).

The above is a slight generalisation, because it depends on the manufacturer and type of build of the sub as well, but its a good rule of thumb.

I'm backing Paz on this one, Infinity components are the best i've ever heard, i would go for a set of them

http://caraudiosecurity.com/catalog/product_info.php+cPath+60_61_109+products_id+1201

and then in the rear i would get an Alpine 2 channel, as below

http://caraudiosecurity.com/catalog/product_info.php+cPath+3_93+products_id+381

With the twelve inch Type-r sub.

http://caraudiosecurity.com/catalog/product_info.php+cPath+60_62_119+products_id+1191

420 pounds, and enough money left over to buy some wires.

I had a similar setup in my old car, although i had 6x9's, but my components weren't as good as the ones i listed for you, it was incredible, the highs were clearer than anything i've heard, and the sub gave out a good thump. Hope this helps.

My other piece of advice would be to stay away from vibe  ;)

I blew up about 4 sets of components in my old car, and they weren't being overpowered, they were just shite

I also know of several people who've sent their vibe subs to electriconic heaven ;)

Would it be better to buy a 4 channel AMP (Channels 1&2 for front, 3&4 bridged to power the sub) or would you recommend the 2 channel AMP instead.

Thanks

Components sound much better powered by an amp, headunits don't do them justice at all. What you mention above is basically the set-up that I had in my old car.

Dunno what the kappa components sound like, but I've got perfect 6.1's, and they sound pretty good.
TBH, I'm not sure a 2x75watt amp would be meaty enough to power the sub and components.
Ive got a Phonex(sp) Gold 4x45watt, bridged to power the fronts, and sub, and the sub gets drowned out at high volume(although the Alpine will be a better amp).
Defo get some speakers in the rear, run them quieter than the fronts (power them from the head unit), and they will make the sound much better, and fill the car (and obviously be louder).
Dunno if 400-500 pounds will be enough to get everything you listed in your requirements (if you buy off E-bay, it probably will be  )
I would suggest at least a 2x50 watt amp for the fronts, and a suitable mono amp for the sub. 8)

I run a Kenwood 12 inch sub from a Pioneer 2 channel amp together with a decent set of JVC component speakers in the front. Like you've said, you won't need to bother with 6x9's if it's set up right.

I don't bother, however - as soon as you get your bass in there you'll need to sort out some good sound deadening as the R vibrates like a mutha fooker!

Would it be better to get a Mono AMP for the SUB and a 2 channel AMP for the components.

Would this power the front components well enough
http://caraudiosecurity.com/catalog/product_info.php+cPath+3_93+products_id+380

or is it better to go for the
http://caraudiosecurity.com/catalog/product_info.php+cPath+3_93+products_id+381

and is this AMP strong enough to power a 1300 watt SUB?
http://caraudiosecurity.com/catalog/product_info.php+cPath+3_92+products_id+2734

Thanks.

p.s How do Kicker SUBS compare to the Alpine Type R's?

Thanks again
