Rear brake upgrade

I am currently in the process of upgrading my rear brake set up, to try and improve it in both performance and looks.

My plan is to keep the standard caliper and fit a bigger disc. A friend of mine who works for a brake specialist is really doing all of the proffesional work and i am donating my pulsar as a guiney pig again. He has previously upgraded my front set up as some of you may have seen and his kits are still selling on fley bay.

The plan is a 300mm 2 piece disc and to manufacture a braket to house the original caliper to suit.

I know i have seen this kind of upgrade before but cannot source from where i could purchase one and at what price. Does anybody know?

If i can get this sorted would anyone be interested in them?

I'm interested..... Have looked into mods myself and was looking at uprated calipers and a small pinch caliper for the handbrake.
I'll keep an eye on this thread to see what you come up with... ;-)

i spoke to xyz the race company about a possible rear brake upgrade (4pots) and they came back with everything (hoses included, calipers brackets etc etc) for 1000$usd. so i can pass on details if anyone is intrested, also 6pot 286mm fronts to fit under 15s

cheers for the pics andy big help.
we will also be looking at a rear vented disk with 300zx 4 pot upgrade as you say its just geting round the handbrake problem.
i will keep everyone informed who is interested.
when we do get the kit sorted for the standerd caliper and biger disc like in the pics. then will start on the vented 4 pot kit.
witch will be loads cheaper then the prices above.

heard that there delivery times are a joke, and ppl are waiting for ages to receive the goods, any info on how long yours took to arrive

About 4 months

And then you don't get a bolt on kit as the caliper mounting bracket needs spacing to fit. He doesn't include the spacers (he just says he's posted them 4 times and each time they must have got lost. Like **** they did) AND THEN you might need to machine abit of the caliper to clear the disc.

Why the hell he can't just machine a caliper mounting bracket that fits in the first place I don't know. Baffoon!!!!

how much cost the godspeed kit?
i was quoted £310 last month,

i know ap do a good rear calliper, similar too that willwood one, but there 1k, thats the whole kit though.

4 pots on the rear are overkill for this size of car, itll just keep locking up.
so youll then need to fit bias valves,

2 pot calipers are big enough upgrade compared to standard.

Can't understand why people want or think they need 4 pots on the rear of a road car. Even on a 400hp car they are not needed.

If you have a dedicated track or hill sprinting car then I would understand but IMO road cars are just overkill.

thats the set up im going for first 300mm disc with standerd caliper and red stuff pads.
i to think 4 pot on the rear is over kill.
but if i get my r to hill climb stage and the brakes dont cope then
then il have a kit waiting for me!

The biggest issue with the rear brakes is heat.
Depending on how you use your car should determin on what kind of rear brake set-up you should attempt to configure.

Personally I've found that on track the rear brakes do have a hard time.
Last year I installed a set of cheap rear Redstuff pads for trackdays to increase rear brake bias and improve overall braking.
After half a day at Oulton Park they pads went from the red coating to a burnt crispy brown. The discs themselves were blue and any rust that had congealed on the disc had turned to a bright red! - Not good!

I was rather impressed yet shocked at the amount of abuse and damage that I had inflicted on the rear brakes.

Since that I've replaced the pads with Mintex 1155 pads, removed the rear dust guard to aid air/venting and coughed up for some Black Diamond rear grooved discs also to help with cooling and pad glazing.

I've not fitted the discs yet, but once installed they should aid with keeping the rear brakes in better shape and help with cooling.
The best bet it to calculate the volumetric area of the front calliper and add a rear calliper with the correct volumetric area that will help settle your bias.

StopTech also have some good advice on their website out rear brake conversions and what to look out for.
