Is this a rb box or nismo box?

Just stripped my close box and i was just wondering how you can tell if it is a close rb box or a nismo box?Looking at the gears the only one that stands out is 3rd as it looks better built than the rest, also the selector forks seem to have brass ends on them instead of the normal plastic type ends:? So what do you guys think is it a rb or a nismo or is my box just a mix of the two:?

The only pic of a nismo box internals i can find is of this one...
but i am still not sure if its the same as i have as i have never seen the insides of a normal rb box but i am pretty sure 3rd gear is the same as in the nismo as in mine:?
Thanks for any info:)

3rd gear on your box is definatly uprated and looks the same as the ones ive seen on others that are supposedly Nismo boxes, it would be good to find out exactly what the differences were between a normal box and a Nismo box!

Ive never seen or heard of those brass inserts on a selector fork before, nicely spotted! I suppose its for better wear and tear over the normal plastic type.

Thanks for the reply mate,Yer the only gear in this box to look uprated is 3rd all the other gears in this box are of the same sort of quality of a normal box.Do you know what sort of speed you can get out of each gear on a nismo box? as the ratios in this box are very close to what a rb box ratios should be if anything they feel a little longer but only by a few miles per hour each gear:?
Looking in the picture above, my gears look the same as them but then i have not seen what the inside of a normal rb box should look like,Also in the picture that looks to have a different diff to me as mine just looks like a standed unit:? :?

I have a supposidly Nismo box with a stripped 5th gear, looks very much the same as that one you have there except you have a different centre diff in the bottom pic to the one i have.

is the center diff still running viscous coupling or clutch pack?
How's your observations after fitting the nismo centre diff?
I'm envious...
How did it change the car's balance and handling?

This is a clutch pack type.

I only installed it in the last couple of weeks and havent had much chance to drive the car. My impressions are it makes the rear diff (nismo 2way) clunk and on downshifts you can feel it engage quite fiercly (and clunk) if you let the clutch out quickly. If you speed match the gears it doesnt do it.

Under acceleration the car feels extremely stable doesnt feel like theres any chance a wheels going to spin but im sure the fronts will spin if i push hard enough. Just havent had the chance to push it yet.

I am slowly adding (15ml at a time) redline friction modifier. And then testing the car for a while and adding some more.

I suspect the factory viscous is quite worn so this feels like it makes a big difference. I will say i would not recommend this for a daily driven car. You can feel the damn thing locking up going into driveways etc etc. On gravel its pretty crazy if you do figure 8's you'd dig a big hole with the inside wheel in no time.

Id be intrested to hear from gtirx2 if hes had similar experience to mine.

Sorry mate like i said above my box still has the standed viscous diff in it:cry: I wish it did have a clutch pack type diff as i suspect like you said it proberbly makes the car far more soild than the 16 year old viscous diff could. The main pic above is not of my box but of a nismo box that i was comparing to my gears to see if they are a nismo gear set or just a normal rb close box set;-)
