Hiya guys, i was wondering on your thoughts on this after scouring the Pistonheads classifieds looking at other cars in the Pulsars limelight. Namely the Lancia Delta Integralle. I have been shocked to find these cars are changing hands for upto £25000 for good examples and yet they are not as powerful as the GTIR and many are upto 5 years newer. From the showing at the 20th Anniversary, there are fewer than 100 examples remaining in the UK and even fewer are good examples. Is it possible the car is being under valued and subsequently undersold? Many of the owners are here on this forum. Surely if there are so few, it would be in everyones interests to sell for more when the time comes. This will also have the affect of making the GTIR into a collectable car and giving it the classic status it deserves. Just a thought. Selling a complete classic car for £3000 doesnt seem like much to me. Personally i was prepared to pay £5000+ for a good example and more as the years go on. Let me know your thoughts. This car isnt in the Glasses Guide, its valued by its owner and prospective purchaser, good examples cost more, its that simple to me.

an integrale is such an iconic car and is probably the most desired classic rally car, closely followed by the audi Quattro. the GTIR although quicker is more of a cult classic with few enthusiasts, I think if i'm being honest the price you pay for a good one now are prob the lowest they will ever be, in five years time im sure a mint standard car will be changing hands for 5k plus. If you look at traders sites they are now asking more for good gtir's, pretty much what they were selling them for nearly ten years ago. prices are on the turn just now but remember the problem with the prices all started with imports, in 1998 a sunny GTIR could have still commanded 12k plus but in Japan you could pick up a pulsar for 2k and sell it here easily for 8k, thus flooding the market and diluting prices. when I bought my first R in 2004 I paid 5500 for it.
just bide your time and you will see prices rise, they are starting to become rare these days esp a good clean shell, but they will never command the prices the integrale, quattro and escort cosworth do, you see these cars all have one thing in common - rally heritage.

whilst I agree with your post, the Gtir has a rally heritage. Ok not as much as a landis delta but it's still a respected machine. The majority of owners frequent this forum. If ever there was a strong case for price fixing, this is it. It breaks my heart to see these sell for 2-3k , A clean example should be selling for up to ten but nobody will ever pay more if owners keep under selling their cars for £2000. If we all charged more when we sold, they will naturally force the Market up.

i understand what your saying but if you look on our for sale section the members on here do not really sell, its only people on ebay and pistonheads who put theres up for sale cheap because they have bought the car and cant afford to fix it when it breaks ( cause they have turned the boost right up and wonder why it goes wrong) or just cant afford to run it so they are never going to charge the earth because they need to get rid quick. This in turn brings the prices down so until all those people have blown theres up then stripped them or crash them we cant charge what the gtir deserves

definitely mate, i have a real passion for the GTIR and would have paid the same for your car. I do have to say though when I was 16 I dint aspire to own one, all I wanted was an integrale or a GT4. I still stick to what I said earlier that the GTIR doesnt have any rally heritage, it was a short lived failure by Nissan, I have no idea why they didnt just sort the intercooler problem and go with a different tyre, but its all history I suppose. If you can tell me why a GTIR should be in a museum then go ahead, but its certainly not a 6 time rally champion or a pioneer in the use of AWD.
that said, its the best car ever made 8)

snobbery is another reason why the gtir is undervalued,people see the car and think it's a gti and therefore sh1t . the GTIR never had the media coverage that evo's and intergrale's had because it was not in production or racing as long as the others, it's 4wd system was actually as good as the earley evos and the like too it's just never got developed....till now.

like someone said earlier in the thread....general prices dictate their worth not us as forum members, and as said untill all those are broke or out the picture will prices start to rise.
they are starting to creep up in value again though ive noticed!
a year ago you could pick one up for under a grand but thats not the case now as your looking at £1500 for a shitter as a whole.
i think come springtime the prices will rise again which can only be a good thing as people wont just be buying them to break or abuse but to look after the things.
also noticed a lot of change in usage over a year as theres a lot more people turning them into track cars and using them for what they were designed for rather than a mcdonalds car park ad lol.
and those with good stock cars should keep them as such as these will be the ones that will be sought after in years to come.
only downside is that the prices of spares may rise also.....we dont break hardly any cars now unless there real dogs and most of the other breakers are the same i believe as theres now too few left so its far better to keep them together rather than strip them for next to no profit which has now become the case.

And because there not being broken i will be putting the prices of gearboxes up after christmas,and it will be a exchange deal on the boxes too......eventually i will run out of parts and the prices will rise even further.

Maybe its time for Nissan to dust off the old GTiR badge and bring out a new 'R, thus helping the popularity of the original too.

the only way you can raise the cars profile is something along the lines of top gear having one on a show and jeremy liking it (highly doubtful) or Ed China & Mike Brewer getting their hands on one and flogging it for profit, now this could happen if they were approached i sure?
a bit of coverage on T.V esp on a show which is constantly repeated would def give it an audience, if this happens we would lose the secrecy that our cars have at the traffic light grand prix v's mr suited BMW driver (cock)

Maybe to gain some of the heritage they missed out on last time around. WRC is always popular, I think the timing is right. Plus, like you say, noone has a great 4x4 at the moment and I believe that 20 years on Nissan have learned from their mistakes and can be the ones to set a new benchmark. I really think they could come up with something that would destroy the Scooby's and Evo's etc. So not only would it be a chance to prove they can get a rally car right this time, but to show they can be leaders of that field.

Matt as you can see around you car sales are pretty low and with the new emmision's law's/astronomical petrol prices and the like i would doubt anyone is going to design a new 4x4 hot hatch....which is a shame i have to say. look at most gti's now there heavy and not that quick ,even a r32 golf is more off a touring car than hot hatch.

I do agree with what you're saying red, I just think if anyone could pull it off, Nissan could. people called the GTiR a baby Skyline, yet the Skyline or GTR as it is now, is going from strength to strength while most people don't even know what a GTiR is. Such a shame.
It's nice to see that people here have really strong views on the GTIR, personally I love that every now and then someone does know what it is and it gets the respect it deserves. I don't think clarkson would be a good ambassador as he destroyed a sunny in one of his videos lol, but defo Edd and mike in wheeler dealers would make a great show. How can we approach them as an oc?
