I have a standard internals  apart from a set of hks 264's :) . I've just ordered some adjustable pulleys :D . What's the best lift to set them to??? :?

Cheers.

Eh - lift is determined by the cam lobes and not the pulleys.

Well its my mate thats fittiing them and he fitted the cams for me.
He asked me what lift i wanted them setting to??

I said i'd find out??

Whats the best setting for them??

Cheers.

its not lift....i would suggest your mate have a good read about cams if he is serious. You can change the timing of the cams. Cam timing should be set on the RR to see where it like it.

Hope your mate knows what he's doing or you could be looking at a new engine if he sets it up totally wrong. :?

The pulleys are 2 peice items. The outside peice is pretty much the same as standard, with a toothed wheel. The inside part is alluminium. The connect together with little bolts in a slotted hole. This slot allows the bolts to be loosened and the pulleys adjusted for ultra fine cam timing alterations. It allows you to move the power band around slightly(I'm not that clued up on this bit)for power lower down/higher up revrange.
As said before,if you're mate isn't 100% confident, then get a specialist to do it.If the pulleys go back on even a tooth out the timing will be way out and if it's more than a tooth you might bend your valves.
they look nicer and weigh less than standard items-shame you can't see 'em :D .

cam timing

if your friend does not know what he is doing tell him to leave well alone  the cams must be set with a dial gauge to exact point of lift in accordence with the position of the pistons.the point of vernier pulleys is to be able to set the valve timing to the conditions of engine use ie if you do rally cross and its wet you need torque so so would retard the timing if you do tarmac racing you would advance the timing for top end power.good luck 8)

I can't remember which way it is, but swinging the cam timing does have the effect of moving the power up and down the rev range, and as power and torque are related, it changes the torque curve too. Moving the power curve down the rev range would increase torque .

has anyone tried to use verniers on standard cams to see if there any difference in torque/power?

vernier pulleys

hi,yes if you retard the valve timing it will produce a torque curve lower down the rev range at the expence of top end power.you can fit the pulleys onto a standard set of cams but the only reason to do this is if you are fine tuning a standard blue printed engine.this meens you can set your torque to were you want it in your rev range :)

It's easy to set the pulleys...if you have the diagram of the HKS camshafts.
You have to ask HKS what timing (in ° after or before the TDC) gives you the max lift.

Then you set your crank at this particular timing point, you loosen the screws of the adj pulley and you turn your camshaft until your reach max lift.

That's it...
