How do u remove the exhaust housing on a turbo charger? is it just a case of undoing all the securing bolts the carfully sliding the exhaust housing off? thanks nis.

If you can support the whole turbo in a vice or something it make the job allot easier.

With the turbo in a position where you can reach all the bolts and with the turbine housing exhaust flange facing upwards, this will make sure that once you've undone all the securing bolts that the weight of the turbine housing is supported by the bearing core and can't fall off the turbo. Also, if you want to reassemble the turbo I would recommend you mark the turbine housing against the bearing core somehow (tipex works well) so you know where it's supposed to go back on. then just loosen all the (5 or 6) bolts around the inside edge of the turbine housing. These bolts hold down two small plates which keep the turbine housing true to the bearing core, once the bolts are loose you should be able to slip the two plates out, then spray a little WD40 around the area the plates covered then if the turbo is in a vice you should be able to twist the turbine housing on the bearing core, it will proberly be corroded and very stiff but you should be able to just gently ease it off the bearing core, then very carefully lift the turbine housing away from the bearing more. Job done
