Buckled Wheel after hitting pothole

Just wondered if anyones had experience with getting money back from pothole damage? ive got a claim form on the way, but the pothole I hit which was right on a bend, 4 cars were at the side of the road later that night with punctures and the police were involved too. When I went back to get a photo it had been filled up, so I dont have any proof of the pothole I hit.

Now another the problem is, i have a set of 16" OZ Titans, and getting hold of another new wheel is imposslbe. I have seen a scuffed set on ebay that didnt sell, but I dont know what to do, do I bite the bullet and get a new set of wheels, and hope I can get some money back from that, or just try to get these scuffed second hand wheels as I only need one?

Be interested in anyones thoughts on this and whether anyone made a sucessful claim from hitting a pothole, such a pain in the arse, an expense I could really have done without.

Working for a council i would like to say good luck!

The fact you did not get a picture at the time of incident may hamper your case!
as it could of be done anywhere.

Also the fact we had to spend lots on salt this year, and the cost of road repairs because of this, may also hamper your case as the money needs to come from somewhere!

Councils like to fight with your sort of case! as it could open flood gates for more!

so what if the weather has been bad. The roads turned to SH1T and we pay for them to be maintained and using ! at the end of every sentence is anoying, and repairing bodged roads with tarmac lasts about 2 minutes, I feel your pain mate I bent an alloy doing the same, cracked it, you can get all the pictures you like but its probably easier to try selling the big issue to get your money back than talk to a helpful council member

same thing happened me!the road i live on is notorious and i bent 2 lightweight sparcos beyond repair.the pot hole i hit was hidden by a large puddle. went to take a pic and twas filled. lots of people had put in complaints and the road was resurfaced but no one was reimbursed.it was all hush hush and my lawyer told me i was pissing against the wind tryin to get money from the local council.... bite the bullet and get a new set of wheels if you cant get the one OZ wheel...

take a picture of the pot hole. this pot hole must be at least 40mm in depth. go through a small claims court and your claim will be processed, takes a while but you will get your cash back. i broke an engine mount in a clio 16v some years ago

dont forget to place a ruler in the pic

were the police involved with your accident as it does help your claim as to where your damage occurred If they were there if not i don't see the council paying up as you could have done it any were ?will be there counter claim. If you were one of the 4 i think they would just pay up as they where all together and had the police there as proof unlucky.

In Reading it's 50mm which is the legal limit so I believe!

Nick i'll get you to come over to mine in your pulsar,as the lane i live on has more holes that need filling that a porn movie. When you've bent your wheels and ripped the sump off your car (i've bent a wishbone on my van before from a pothole on these roads) i'll then belive that there is a national 50mm maximum depth.
Ps i have also had the wheels on my old R1 bent (nearly killed me too!) by potholes in the berkshire area. Our roads are shit and they are never repaired properley anymore as no one give's a flying f11ck about them

Nothing personal against you btw

my partner hit a pot holelast week damaging both alloys on the passengers side, the car was undrivable, got car recovered back to the house, called police to report the hole and said it would probable cause another accident, but they werent interested, contacted the insurance company, and is geting the car fixed through the insurance, and they are going to try and reclaim there money back from the council, an if are able to do so, will refund the excess payment,

Just go and find another one, take a picture of it and say you hit that one ;-) With the state of the roads these days it shouldnt take long to find a few more

Definately seems like a 50/50 with this, ive got nothing to loose for trying, but my trip to Haywards Heath as my MOT was due aswell felt like I was driving in iraq with all the craters I was dodging . Certainly plenty of pot holes to take photos of!!!

I wasnt part of the 4 who were at the side of the road with the police, unfortunately its a dangerous road as it is, and you cant really stop anywhere, still though the woman from the council who is sending out the claim forms said definately put in the claim, so we`ll see what happens!!!

This was on 5th Gear wasn't it? - Yes, put a claim in; don't expect it to get paid any time soon, but you should get something from them.
To be honest, I think it goes on their insurance so you're waiting for them to make the claim, get paid, and get back to you.
