ADVICE on LM-1 wideband air fuel meters

hi guys,

looking to get a wideband air/fuel meter so me and my mate can start to learn how to map our cars (he's got a gt4 st205) and were both using the powerFC. is the below a good choice as my mate has heard that you can remove the ecu from the car and play about with the fuelling from the comfort of your PC, but we'll be using a laptop anyway 99% of the time hopefully.

all opinions welcome!

It might work but looking at it IMO a datalogit would work better. Without being able to reference the PowerFC load points you may as well just have a mate looking at an AF gauge and use the commander.

Like with anything else get the right tools for the job.

For WB lambda's I believe the innovate kit is good but I went for an AEM WB & gauge as at the time I could get it slightly cheaper. I never use the gauge for tuning but it is a handy refernce when doing runs to check AF looks roughly okay.

Good luck with it,
Jim

jim i have just aquired a air flow meter, just a question can it be wired in to the existing lamda? as the guy i bought it of didnt give me any instructions, and he is proving very difficult to get hold of.

here is a pic of it. it has 3 wires red, black, purple, are the wires 12v, -neg, lamda signal?

the only other info i have found is on the there website, which has 4 wires presume the white wire is for the the light switch i think.

the other question is where do i wire the purple into, onto the ECU. any help would be appreciated.

sorry for hijacking the thread ian.

Thats looks like a narrowband air/fuel ratio meter, if it is it will wire into the standard lambda sensor but they're about as much use as a chocolate teapot ;-)

go for a lm1 or lc1 with xd-16 pretty cool piece of kit with all the data loging and you can change the colour of the lights on the gauge to what ever colour you want woooooo!!!!! and it looks pretty flash when it turns on at night and goes through the light sequence lc1 is permanent install while lm1 is not. id stick with a lc1 rather than lm1 just because of practicality with everyday running and simplicity with just pluging the laptop into the connection and thats it. with out having to get the lm1 out and set it all up.

i cant wait to get mine back from them they are taking their time with it.

cheers for the input so far guys. to be honest im not overly bothered about having the guage fitted into the car as a permanent feature as it will be used across both cars as and when we do the tuning, plus ive got too many gauges to look at as it is, (well EGT, AVCR and boost guage apart from the stock ones)!!

dave (rayman) hopefully this link http://www.gtiroc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30292 should help you out with your question. hows things progressing with your motor, will you be ready for the show season as i can see a few of us from these parts making up a decent convoy!

ian thanks for the link very handy. progress wise nothing has really changed, got some bits to fit but nothing performance wise. i was on the lookout for a turbo but dont think i can stretch that far. probably looking at getting some 16's, i have got some but the dont clear my 4-pots:cry: thats about all im going to do.

after trawling through the various options available to me, i decided to go for this wideband as i was already placing a large(ish) order with the company so i sorted out a bit of a better deal with them

Jim, i might PM you over the weekend to pick your brains on the powerFC setting etc if thats ok?
No problem. I'd advise you look through a lot of the posts done by Ross (AJ4) to get a feel for setting things up first. He helped me a lot when I was getting my head round things at first.

I've seen some guidelines on this kit on the innovate website too. I've never tried it better it seems reasonable.
