What's the context? Is it for rally cars to keep the turbo spinning (by injecting fuel into the exhaust)?

I don't really know anything about 5th injectors, but I'm googling (and it looks like my first guess was all wrong)... care to explain why it's a waste of time EVOBAD?

I'm guessing it's simply that a Pulsar can already deliver enough fuel with increased boost, and that if you max-out the injectors it's easier to just fit bigger injectors... and that most 5th injectors are nothing more than a b@stardised cold-start system (and the Pulsar uses the AAC/FCID to do cold starts).

Teach us your secrets!

think it was put on the cosworth race car as it just wasnt competitive.and there was only a limit they could do to the rs 500 before it infringed on the homologation rules

Its because theye're all stuck in the 90's, i bet half of them are still using ultra low compression turbo engines too

A 5th injector is basically just a bodge for the existing 4 injectors not being big enough to start with ;-)

Not really its mainly used on escort rs turbo's which on the oe inlet etc there isn't an available injector upgrade without changing to cossie management (or another form of efi) . As for the cosworth 'race cars' the rs500 sierra cosworth when used in competition was running an 8 injector setup but when sold for road (for homologation purposes) the 8 injectors were there just not wired up but from what i gathered reading mags etc its a pretty simple thing to do and what most rs500 owners do to theirs.

escort rs turbos run bosch ke jetronic injection, so im kinda in agreement with mark, although i'd say they need a 5th injector because they are stuck in a cave wearing bear skins if its still running the bosch injection let alone the 1990's.

Its stone age technology. it works, but its stone age..lol

the only reason i'd run a 5th injector on a gtir is if i was running meth injection, any other reason is pointless imho.

I`ll pretty much second whats already been said, its just a poor and not very acurate way of compensating for too much boost and not enough fuel.
