hi all,ive come to a crossroads in my build where im in two minds wether or not to finish or sell up and buy a completed one.i have a fair collection of parts that are going into this car and have done alot of work so far.one of the biggest problems im having is the car was a bit of a shambles when i got it so things are being taken off and replaced but my knowledge of these cars isnt very extensive, although mechanically my knowledge is quite good.ive built the engine which is currently still sitting on a stand but just dont know if its quite ready to put back in the car yet.

this is the spec so far:

fully recon'd cylinder head-new exhaust valve guides,re-cut valve seats,chemically dipped,hks 264 cams and hks verniers,rocker stoppers,new seals,skim and re-shim
87mm block fitted with 87mm wiseco pistons, brand new std rods fitted with arp rod bolts
std crank nothing done to it apart from a clean with full acl race series main, big end and thrust bearings
cosworth 87mm 1.5mm head gasket
genuine brand new nissan chain, tensioner and water pump
fully recon'd oil pump(there was nothing wrong with it just wanted to be safe)
full engine gasket set
alu flywheel
exedy/daiken clutch kit
hi-spec 300mm front discs and 4 pot calipers
whiteline polly ant-roll bar D-bushes
pollybushed drop links(brand new)
brand new track rod ends
whiteline anti-dive kit
tein super street coilovers
compomotive mo6 17" wheels
s/s front exit exhaust (also have a full mongoose exhaust)
pace front mount intercooler kit with short-run pipes and 2x slimline fans(also have a spare front mount kit with hard pipes)
sheepdog bov
s/s tubular top mount manifold
zytek ecu with aerospec loom and coilpack
shell in pretty good condition some rust on rear arches but have brand new arches and trims
shell is painted in bayside blue
standard interior in good condition

gearbox is std and have 2 of them most other things are std but im sure ive forgotten somethings

if anyone wanted to offer a good price for everything id definatly consider it but my mind is just not made up just now so if anyone out there wants to lend a helping hand to get it done or would like to finish a project then feel free to comment or pm me.even if you just want to comment your opinions feel free.

cheers
scott

i would just finish it mate, the car is so much better when you have put it together and you know how and where everything is, i was in the exact same position with mine, i had a shell sitting outside worth about 300 quid and about 6 grands of parts in my bedroom, so glad i finished it

The big problem is im needin someones knowledge to help guide me but bein in scotland there isnt anyone close to me.i love the cars ive had evos and hondas and drove sxoobs etc but none of them have the thrill of a pulsar.

stu if i was to sell up i dont know how much to ask for ive spent about 7k on it but i realise i wouldnt get that for it as id expect to take a loss.i just dont know.ill get some pics later on today and post them up

If your still building your engine, why don't you pick up an put in a standard engine until yours is ready

I'd say IF you are going to sell then don't put it back together, you will make more breaking it in bits than as a whole as is the norm with these types of cars.

only you will know if the outlay in cash is worth it for the smile it'll put across your face, personally it sounds like you might just need some time away from it as a project, might be taking up too much of your time/money/life hence why you cant be arsed with it anymore, maybe a month or 2 away from it will give you some new motivation/perspective for the upcoming summer months

Whytie the engines built its just all the add ons at the back of the inlet im confused with.dont want to put another engine in as my garage is very small and wasnt the easiest to take it out.i would love to finish it and feel what its like to drive but im just stumped really needing someone with good knowledge to look at it and give me some guidance.

Might be a good idea to post up some pics of the back of your inlet to see whats not there/needing attached, worst case scenario you have to rebuild it off info from here if there's not a local member near you with enough knowlegde on gtir's, i'm not a pulsar owner but kinda in the market for one, not a stranger to fast cars and bikes though.

Mate, i am no mechanic but i am rebuilding mine from scratch just look at it logically and use this site for relevant threads and if it doesn't fit/work then stand back and look at it again, plus you will get the satisfaction of completing it yourself :-D

Here are a couple of pics that helped me with the back of the inlet manifold

Finish it.

I look at it like this, if your doing it yourself, you can do it just the way you like it, and get it just the way you want it, first time.

If you buy one, it isn't going to be exactly the way you want, and it'll only be time before your changing something.

Plus the satisfaction of doing it yourself is far greater. ;-)

Just stick everything you can back on the engine, tranny, box, manifolds, turbo, etc and slip the car over it and bolt it up. Get 1 or 2 engine mount bolts in and just work a jack to get the rest to line up but dont use the jack on the sump! any little dents on your sump and it will effect your oil pressure!

We could have a gtir rebuild party? Haha

Ok martin no probs.i didntbwant to keep hassling u as u work away.ill go pm my number again to u.
If Martyn can't get down your way any time soon I would be more than happy to bring my car round so you can have a look to see where everything goes. I've blown my gearbox so getting a Quaife fitted right now (along with sorting out various issues with my front Teins) however hopefully I will be back on the road mid January and as I work in Dundee it wouldnt be hassle for me.

Anyway, offers there.
