I wonder what will be the next ting to break then? Axles? :D

Ha it could well be the driveshaft's i know the primera's where shit for snapping! but at the end of the day i would be more than happy to replace i bust driveshaft for £40 over taking the box off and paying £350+ for a new one!8)

Yep, changing the shafts would be a small price to pay for endless launch fun. I've just launched my car once during my four year ownership (wheelspin and whatnot). I suppose someone should start looking into uprated shafts then. :)

p.s are they welding these up with dummy shafts and bracing?

Yes they will be welded with a spare complete set of shaft's ,bearing's etc

Detail's and pic's will be available once i have a completed one done.

Good stuff Danny, I am bit confused on the price as it says sold as a pair on exhange basis and should be under £1k.Now I am presuming they won't be less thna £500 each but more like a grand?

The gearbox case is two halves (bellhousing side and cover) hence circa 1k for a pair.

If this works....

....sequential gearbox?

Possible, i have been looking at converting a ikeya formula shifter as making a complete seq box will be big money (think £20,000 + to develop and build)

And andy it will work as which ever way you go it's still cheaper than having to replace a £3500+ Quaife or whatever that is spat on the floor when the standard case break's.

I had looked at the ikeya sequential shifter thing a month ago but it seems it was only adopted for direct gear lever (like the RWD Silvia or S2000) or cable type gear linkage like the evo.. Another reason why i asked if possible to change ours to gear linkage :)

Danny, what time frame are we looking at. I've got a Drenth gearbox sitting in my garage and i can't wait to try it up but it scheduled for January.

Not to mention casings are getting harder to come across.

Out of interest will the casing where the clutch release fork lives also be included with this upgrade?

I've never blasted the outer side of the casing always in inner, for some reason?

I'll see what can be sorted with the inner (how many inner bellhousing cases have you broke?)

I will be selling the casing's as matched original pairs and i have 4 complete gearboxes and 7 spare sets of cases and enough spares to build 5 more standard g/boxes complete.

I've done two so far, the current one is cryo treated to see if that lasts.

No issues yet, but I've only driven it a handful of times this year.

Sounds like the lay shaft was'nt shimed up properley and has been slamming to and fro to do that,as a standard gearset (if you are running standard internals) is not strong enough to break the case there,in saying that though it depend's on a few thing's to break there.

Can you send me some pics andy?

Standard gears in the casing, so shaft could be improperly shimmed?

I've got no pic's of the damaged casings, I just chucked them once damaged.

For reference, one was cracked the other had a puncture hole in it, no total catastrophe failures like we are normally used to.

Thats my plan for dealing with the extra power i've got now, i know sooner or later i'm going to strip all the teeth off a gear but at least the casing will stay intact  I've got a big box of gearbox internals ready for when the inevitable does happen anyway.

I may have to have a rethink down the line though if stripping gears turns into a regular occurrence

plus the 3 or 4 more i have in the northern branch!!

im an expert at breaking thinks so if the casings stand up to the abuse i give them, we'll be onto a winner.

ive got a stock of clutches to get through, so testing may take some time!!
