I've just been recovered by the RAC.......the alternator's gone. They put a fully charged battery (with a jump lead on the earth as the battery terminals were the opposite way round) to get me home.......just.

Where's the best place to get a new one (quickly) and what sort of price are they these days?

About £140 I'd of thought but my last one was £90 but that was years ago. I just paid over a 100 quid for one for a mk1 golf recently.

Nissan or the local factors should be able to sort you out.

I'm guessing Nissan will be £100s

I'll get the old one off tomorrow and see. There used to be a guy around here who reconditioned them, I'll go and see if he's still trading. Failing that I'll try and get a new one.

deffo not £350! lol

i researched this before, because i needed one- but i didnt buy one in the end, ended up selling the car as it was, so yeah after a long search i found out that according to here, the sunny gti and gtir alternator is the same: http://www.camskill.co.uk/m30b0s3529p47272/BLUEPRINT_ADN_PART_NUMBERS_-_ALTERNATOR_-_ADN11134_

in which case you can buy a gti one here for £68 brand new
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NISSAN-10...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43b7d5953e

his got all the part numbers, so just double check, but if the first link has got the info right, then the 2nd link £68 one will fit.

Good finds I found them listed for the P11 but wasn't a 100% sure that they were the same, But the part number is correct i believe.

Well it's off and in the garage for a look at.
The long pivot bolt I assume was in the wrong way round as it had to come out towards the inner wing, not the manifold. So I just took the whole mounting bracket off complete.
The pivot bolt also had no nut on the end. :?

New alternator is on. (£130) It's running a lot quieter, so I'm guessing the noise I thought was the exhaust knocking was the alternator bearing.

I don't know. I gave my original to an auto electrician to fix but he said it was uneconomical and got me a new one.
