how do you tell the difference in standard and uprated boxes without taking them apart
what are the characteristics of the uprated boxes and quaifes?
can you tell anything from the gbox casing etc

bit of a vague question but im sure someone who knows will be able to give some info

Quaifes have a shorter gear ratio compared to standard and should make a different noise in comparison to a stock box.

Without splitting the box I believe there is no way of telling since everything uprated is contained within the stock casing, however a gearbox expert will be able to confirm this for you.

No, I think that's the right answer unless it's something obvious like a dog box.

Someone like Danny can tell you pretty quickly what it is, but they have to look inside the box first.

1st is longer ratio on the quaife, you can tell if it is a aftermarket mainshaft from its design and 5th you can tell from the filler plug on the box, but the only true way is to take the case end off (only do this if you know what you are doing!).
