Rocker cover gasket

I'll be replacing this gasket as it is leaking on the front corner down by the distributor. Looking at the manual it looks like I need some liquid gasket for this as well as a new seal. Do I need to put this liquid gasket on all sealing parts of the head or just over certain areas like cam ends etc?

I usually put a thin bead around the spark plug gaskets to hold them in and push the gasket down slightly

I was re-using the old seal when I changed the rocker cover, so just put a smear of the liquid gasket on both sides and that seems to be holding up. - I did take care to try not to squeeze huge gobs right into the gallerys around the cams.
