I've been having a few running problem with the car recently since swapping ECU's, the REV counter has now starting flicking madly and doesn't read at all at idle.

What should I check? :?

the rev counter works off the pulses on the coil.probably has different connection on the ecu

No the fault lies in the wire running from the gearbox to the tachometer, i had similar problem, i think yours is the same, just check this little black wire. Remember on the R the gearbox sends the revs to the tachometer which then sends this info to the ecu, so i think ecu is a red herring.
