Quick question about petrol/fuelfilter

Hi experts/gods of the GTIR realm


I've just managed to change my fuel filter-woohoo but I was a little concerned at the petrol I drained out of the filter-it was black????
The old filter was about 1 1/2 years old but I do have a very bad habit of running on very empty so is it just that I have dredged up 13 years of $hit or anything I should be worried about? I do use millers octane booster very regularly but I thought that was red so didn't think it's be that?

Sounds to me like the filters does it's job and stopped the sh!te going into your engine and holding it in the filter. Running low on fuel shouldn't cause a problem as the pick up pipe is not on the very bottom of the tank.
