power steering screech

is this a big job on the r. been to look at another today and the belt was screeching when putting the full lock on. is this a big job?

just tighten the belt, unless its oil contaminated.

steering pump will only screech if:

1. Belt has too much slack (as mentioned above)
2. Oil contamination (as mentioned above)
3. The is an air leak into the system - this could be air leaking in from anywhere in the power steering system, doesn't necessarily have to be a fault with the pump but will cause the pump to screech.

I personally think the pump is a bitch of a job on these cars lol

Changing the pump would be a royal pain, as is replacing the belt (because the alternator belt has to come off first)... but tensioning it is pretty easy.

Its worth an inspection of the belt to ensure its not on its last legs i.e. about to snap completely.
