How can I check that my water pump's working properly?

I REALLY need to get this prob sorted cos its doing my head in big time but it'll cost a fortune (which I most definately don't have) to just drop it in somewhere and let them 'sort it' as no one can pin point the problem so I'd rather do it myself.

if its not working then it wont pump any water round at all. its either broke or its not, theres no inbetween the only way to check the seals are ok is to see if there is any water leaking out of the little hole on the top of the water pump.

Don't think there's any water leaking but I'll check for sure tomorrow. That's another possibility probably eliminated then
