HI all , recently I've been getting some loud squealing when steering on the spot if car is cold or when it's a full lock. I've also occasionally felt the steering get harder when steering on the spot sometimes?

What do you guys reckon it is? It's definetly not the tyres but I'm kinda guessing it's the powersteering pump :?:

Ta for ya replies

Have you checked the fluid level?
Is it when you're turning the wheel or if you hold it on full lock?
It could be the belt...... or something else.

I've checked the level-I did have a slight leak from one of the hose clips a while ago but I fixed this recently and never let it get too low!

At cold it will squeal all the time - when hot it's only on absolute full lock.

Any ideas?

I think I'd go with the belt, unless you've changed it recently. If it turns out not to be that, it's only a couple of quid spent.

squealing on full lock is normal due to pump pressure,if it,s continually squealing when at a standstill it could be possibly be the pump.remove the top cap and have somebody turn the steering check that the fluids drop down when on full lock.
1.check play in belt
2.check viscosity of the fluid
3.possible pump on it,s way out
o,h does the steering get heavier might indicate the pumps not wrking properly, but try the above first
