Gearbox noise

It would seem my gearbox is starting to give up, not a huge problem as I have a spare but I am curious as to what is actually going wrong, I can hear a reasonably loud chattering noise coming from inside the end case, initially I thought it was clutch but it is definitely the box.

What's likely to have started to go, a bearing?

Could be the bearing. I'd say change it soon though so it's a cheapish rebuild rather that a totalled gearbox like my son had when a bearing went on a Seat he owned.

Will be changing it soon. Pulling the whole lump soon anyway by the looks of it.

Will have 2 working but poorly boxes. Need to look into rebuilds.

Whats the going rate for a 2nd hand box these days?
