gear selecter probs

hi all

my mums car has broke and she will have to use the R But shes mownin about the gears ive got used to it but basicly from 2 to 3rd it is easy to get into 5th rarher than 3rd and when going down from 5th to 3rd u get 2nd if ure not careful so theres play in it some where any one no where to start or wat to look for?

Gear selector bushes or dodgy quick shifter fitted, or being a mum she can't drive a gtir..........saying that my mother drives mine and has no issue

had a quick look underneath theres little play on the gear leaver ball joint thing but the big play is where the shitf arm is bolted before going into a rubber boot then gearbox my question is is there anything in the boot that needs replacing if not then in sounds like gearbox has play and can stay like it till any thing tragic happens
