can spark plug covers cause problems

heard from a friend that covering the plugs on high power cars etc can cause problems is this true or just a myth as i have a full plug cover on my car

Not one I've heard before.
Not covering them can sometimes cause water ingress problems leading to misfires.

Don't see how.If it was because they got too hot or the cover interfered with them electrically then the leads wouldn't be covered with rubber

Me neither. - If it's electrical, then the problem is leads that are broken.
If it's that they're too hot, the cover won't make much difference given they're already sitting on the rocker cover.

As above; not having a plug cover can cause problems when water gets into the plug wells.

Ah! - I can see how that might be the case; one or more coil brakes-down and you loose the spark on that cylinder?
So, that's an SR20DET problem... if you've got an S14 Silvia, not a GTi-R.

That looks like it's got a plug cover to me, and it's certainly high powered.
