timming chain

can the timming chain come lose,without snapping? As after driving the car 2day the engine is sounding very rattly,not gona drive it any further now!

rattling and knocking just sounds shit went too turn the key over and just get fast clicking noise!

worked on a R recently that the chain had jumped on, the inlet camshaft had moved a few teeth and...ouch, buried the valves into the pistons :shock: :!:

put it down to the tensioner and wear on the chain guides

replaced the engine tho so i didnt have a good look at it

are timing chains hard to come by ???
as my local nissan quoted me 93 quid for one,
also how much labour is invloved in fitting etc. and rough costs

had a mate cum round,and the chain has jumped ,the tensioner was too blame and the valves have made a mess of other parts.looks like a new top end now!
