Garrett GT3076R turbo: opinion needed

I'm about to buy the 3076R tubby from Garrett to break the 500bhp barrier.

Have you guys already heard about Rs running with this tubby?I'd like to know more about how laggy it will be compared to the GTRS (GT2871R like) I have at the mo.

BTW,I was hesitating with the GT3071R which I know keep lag at a reasonable level but I'm not sure it will allow me to break the 500bhp barrier.Opinion?

I'm also interested in feedback about the HKS 3037S as it has same specs as the GT3076R except some minor difference:0.87 A/R instead of 0.82 on the Garrett,and T25 inlet flange instead of T3.

I have the JGYBB37R turbo which I beleave is a bit like the 3037 and mine will hit 500bhp so they say, I'm getting full boost at 5500rpm and keeping it right throgh to 8000rpm.

At the mo it's running 352.3bhp at 1.1 bar.

But I'm going to sell it I think and get something smaller that will pull 380bhp-400 bhp as I'm no longer interested in big power motors.

3076 should spool about 500-1000rpm lower than a true gt30 so atp recon seem a very good turbo if they do what they say
i recon u should see full boost by 4500

Doubtfull that a GT3076 will break the 500bhp barrier...

Throught that they would be good for 480bhp... ie just a quicker spooling GT30R...

GT30R - 480bhp @ 1.7bar.... 76mm compressor


GT3071R - 400bhp @ 1.4bar and 450bhp @ 2.5bar but that comes with silly torque because of the high boost... Much quicker spooling than the GT30R...


GT3076R - Quicker spooling version of the original GT30R... both have same size compressor wheels...


No matter which one you choose you'll hit full boost before 4500rpm... When of course depends on many things such as head work, engine build, manifolds etc..

let make things clear.

The turbo I'm talking about is THIS one:

But they ARE the same. (look at the specs)

The 3071R I'm considering is the external WG one...

Because nevermind the tubby I choose,it will be fitted on a 4 in 1 stainless steel mani with an external WG.

At the mo' I run the quarter mile in 11.5s at 125mph...with a HKS GTRS on std mani.

I can't really push this tubby anymore as it's clearly struggling at high revs (above 7000rpm). But I guess I am in the 430 bhp area.(it's the kind of power needed to achieve 11.5s on a quarter mile)

With my GTRS I hit 1.6 bar at 3,600rpm in 4th gear.

What I want know is about 60 extra hp.I know it means more lag...even with a better mani and an external WG. But I'd like to keep lag at a reasonable level...full boost at 4krpm or 4,500rpm is still what I call a reasonable level...

Do you think the 3076R is the turbo to go for?

And BTW,what is the 3036R you're talking about Rishi?

Yeah sorry that was a typo..

3036 was meant to say 3076...


Basically the GT3076R is a quicker spooling version of the GT30R...

the GT3076 has a ever so slightly smaller turbine but larger trim... there are other mild differences but basically the 3076 will spool quicker and produce similar/same power...

The larger turbine side of the GT30R will allow for slightly getter gains... I'm talking about 10bhp difference but about a much quicker spool for the GT3076... This quicker spool will bring peak torque earlier in the rpm range which will bring down your 1/4mile times and make it more drivable on the road and track...

so at the end of the day,I'll have boost at 4,500rpm or before,and the car will still be driveable and able to attack time on track days,isn't it?

Oh,and it will make the 500bhp I want! lol :twisted:

theory say it should do 500bhp and should def on race fuel
but the 3071 can do 450ish so 3076 will def do hi 400s
and a better option is to get a tubular manifold with a T3 flange and get a 3076 with T3 flange and 3" outlet
