Side exit exhaust (boost creep)

HI there,

I am looking to fit a 3" side exit exhaust ou the bumper, my reasons for this is to
  1. potentionally save weight
  2. to remove the bulged in the floor
  3. cost (againist a full system)

My concern is boost creep, i 1st came across this after fitting a 3" down pipe and fully system to my evo1.

Does any one know if this will happen to teh GTIR after fitting the side exit?
Would i then need to get a mappable ecu and new map etc?
What size of bore would stop it or what size should i fit etc?

Cheers Craig

What on earth do you want a side exit exhaust for, It will be very loud you'll be stopped by the police constantly and you wont get on any track day end of story.

But a few people have run them in the past with out problem running wise I believe.

Just a track car.

I mentioned my reasons in op, mainly to get a seat fitted low, it's cheaper and saves a bit of weight.

Can fit an bung to silence it slightly.

As the back pressure will change I wasn't sure about boost creep.

So you think after its fitted I will not have to get it mapped or change boost settings, I have it at 1bar at the moment?

Seems like a lot of effort to cut a section of the floor out when you still have the tunnel for the prop shaft. - If you don't have a catalytic converter you may find your exhaust doesn't interfere anyway.
The couple of people I know had a front-exit have put it back to a rear-exit now.

I'm not sure about how useful the weight saving is; all the weight is at the front already.

Ultimately potential creep issue could probably be resolved with a stronger wastegate spring. - I'd start there if you're having problems with your new exhaust.

Pobody, thanks for that.

Tbh the side exit is not really no cup of tea, I was just thinking it would save a few issues etc.

You are right it's only the where the cat used to be that I need to cut out.

Think I'll just get full system made.

Cheers

Ultimately it's your car, do what you like. - I think Rob has a point about it getting harder to pass the noise regs these days, but you can put a big muffler in a front-exit and take some of the noise out.

It is less restrictive, and I think if you were building a car for the drag strip it would make more sense.

I'm no expert, but I think having so much weight at the front is one of the reasons the car tends to understeer by default.

The car will likely only be on track at Knockhill whose noise regs aren't a prob as its in the middle of naewhere and the car won't be on the road.....

The plan was to get the drivers seat down to a decent height so that was the thinking behind the front exit and overall there would be weight savings, I know its not ideal having a big silencer at the front....
