TOTB 7 REPORT (from my point of view)

Sorry people its long one but there are bits that would give you a better insight and understanding in some events that you might or might not read about in redline or seen on the day.

Well It started same the way it was go on. Drove to Elvington at around 5 thinking it not to early and still plenty of time for scrutenering. Me and my mate Dan rolled in at bang on 5 and we drove through the pits looking for another pulsar to pit with, when we was greeted with a wall we were saying to each other did you see one and at that moment Andy C rang and said flash your lights. Andy C waved “aha were there” go and park up get out the beers then tackle the tent.
We spoke to Andy C and asked “where are the others” one pulled out leaving four of us, ones putting a new gear box in and should be here later (fubar andy), the other two are coming in the morning.

So armed with a couple of beers me and Dan walk of to the pits to see the competition. Team Vauxhall was the first stop and there was a burnt out Nover (no laughing please). in the back of my head I am thinking am sure I just saw this drive out 10 ago, I dismiss this thought because the was no panic or fuss from any one to suggest one of there cars was on fire. Went on to talk to them about what happened an sure enough he took it out on the road to test his map and out side the gates of TOTB it blew up and was now spectating.

We mooched on to the mr2s where a red mr2 had just tuned up “whose the fastest of these then” I asked and an Australian man said “this one, its run a 9 in America” more questions later and it turns out the driver has never driven it before ooodear I think good luck to him. Moved down the mr2s and there was a man busy on his “what’s it run” “10.8 last year and now iv got another 100horses since then” it was the Australian man again who turned out to be one of the nicest un-arrogant people at TOTB

We move down to 200sx and there all very busy trying to get the blue one with the skyline lights ready, witch on the Sunday I believe broke on the first run.

So we come up the other side of the pits evry one seems to be hiding until we stumble on rear wheel drive polo who I know from york hering that he has put it up to 440 horses now. he managed an 11.7 on 340 so despite all the troubles of the year of the extra 100 horses that keep killing his engine he was hear and ready to run and looked impressive on the drag strip.

We then finished the tour of the pits with the black rx7 who hadn’t yet really done a solid run just had all the chassis and suspension done over by Hauser racing that also broke on its first run.

We were walking back to our pits when I was thinking I have been asked “who you with.” im with me and my car then I realise that because I was walking around in a pair of funky shorts and T-shirt with a can of beer asking questions and being probably the youngest entry. They thought I must have been a part of a car team. And this revelation was greeted by another shit we run out of beer so we walked a 4mile round trip to the nearest pub and on our return was greeted by confusion and laughter as every one thought we gone to bed to bright and ready for the morning and not getting more drunk 2mile down the road.

In the morning I was introduced to Fubar andy and we start talking, as we are both here kind of by accident and was shitting our self’s as every other car had so much more power, money and sponsors they came 10 people per car with computers, full working mobile garages, trailers and motor homes and there was us two. With two relatively low spec Rs and were well out of our depth.

So there was 2 of us going to wave the flag for team GTIR I went on the drag strip because it’s the only thing I know and it’s the shortest queue, well I and the car was shit really the car was misfiring at 6-7 revs the gear oil was to hot and got really thin so changing gear was imposable.

I went on to the circuit and had ago never done a track day circuit or any thing with corners first run was 1min 5 my second was 1min dead. And decided that my erratic approach was wearing down my side walls and went back to drag to see if my car would cooperate and it didn’t so I thought sod it im going before I brake some thing and drove home fubar andy lost a fan belt dp broke its outer casing.

It was nice meeting every one I still had a good time despite my troubles. Hope to see you all again soon
