Standard Pulsar Gearbox

Just wondering if anyone could set this straight, how much power (BHP+torque) can a standard Pulsar Gearbox handle? I've seen people say they are no good after 300 but I've also seen people claim they can take 400bhp. Obviously the way the car is driven has a part to play but I'd very much like to clear this up as I'll be running the standard box in mine. Thanks

Series one or series two? - Didn't Nissan revise the design and make them slightly stronger?

I can't remember how, just that there was a slight different that comes in to play if you rebuild one. - It's probably actually the torque that's the limit of the gearbox rather than the power.

You'll never get a 100% answer because there are too many variables.

I'll narrow it down since I've blown my gearbox 17 times!

300bhp on the street with hard use, should be ok (don't launch it from the lights or that will blow it much quicker)
330bhp on the street, with hard use should be ok, but you might find some wear and possible, selector issues or syncro wear.
350-370bhp on the street with hard use, you might start to have more as above or strip a 3rd gear.
400bhp with hard use, will probably find much faster syncro/selector wear or breakages. Higher risk of 3rd or 4th gear stripping.

If your going on track, the above wear rate will be increased 3x faster.

Thank you mate this is basically the answer I was looking for, I think I'll stay around the 330bhp mark, it will mainly be used for fast road driving for now just have to resist launching it at the lights

sorry i am late, i have done about 10 gearboxes in my time, i found that there is no one thing that breaks, i have stripped teeth, broken selectors (my most common failure) and i have split the casing like a banana.

general rule is treat it with respect and it will likely be fine, treat it with aggression then you have a ticking time bomb.

i drag raced my pulsar over the years with about 400hp on a standard box and it could last 1 day racing or it could last 14 days racing with 14 drag passes per day.
