Its called drifting but it uses the rally special stage circuits at Oulton Park. This is an ultra low grip and watered track to simulate driving on snow for rallying.

Sensibly it could be called car control but it really is just people legally messing around in cars. The day is helped by the completely free professional instruction to improve your car control and get the thing sliding.

I realise the R is 4 wheel drive and difficult to "drift" with but it is equally as capable of being played with as the next car.

Mid engined cars did struggle and there were no FWD cars but I reckon anything that is fun in snow would be fun on this.
At the last meet, someone suggested the R might not be designed for drifting? Unless this was the flaw in Nissan's rally plan then I doubt this is true :lol:

Here is a vid of a subaru owner messing around and showing how safe it is when you spin. You are lucky to hit 30mph so it is just like snow. We may have more of that again this year so it might be timely practice:

For those struggling with understeer, I'll bring my tyre pump for their rear tyres :-D

The speeds are low so there is no stress on brakes, chassis or engine. I was able to drive to work on Monday without any issues.

The only downs side is the damp track gets the car dirty so you will need a few hours cleaning it afterwards.

I'll be going so if anyone wants to try their hand at something different then please come along.

To put things in perspective, my wife who was going to read a book last time will be driving again she had so much fun.

Let me know if you are interested.

A passenger is £10 but an extra driver is only £15 which is how my wife ended up joining in last time. A helmet is £10 too if you need to hire one. I used less than a tank of fuel going there, back and around 60 miles sideways. No brakes, tyres or oil meant it was a cheap day for two.

It's very tempting... but I need to be moving house around that time (which will likely consume the cash I'd need to pay for it anyway).
What's the cut-off?

There isn't really a cut off as you have to book through their website. Last time it just showed places left and then send no places a few days before hand.

There is another one in December that I'd hope to go to but this is a definite for me and a maybe for Bob.

Cheers,
Jim

If you can it will be great but I'm not that good and the speed of it make it better for the driver or passenger than the spectator.

For me it sounds like a good excuse to go together in December!!

It could be the December NW gtiroc meet?

I'm the one in the "kochmobile":lol:

Was a great day out, everyone was very friendly.

The Gt4 owners club turned up in force, some loved it and had fun, others hated it as the cars kept under steering so stayed off the track.

The jury is out on whether it would be a good GtiR owners day out.

The only one who doesn't spin... that's either better car control than everyone else, or good editing!

Not my editing as spinning is all part of the experience and shows you are trying

The instructors helped me massively but are constantly pushing you to develop different techniques which keeps it challenging.

However, the time to try out the new techniques is not in front of a big audience on a corner that becomes an even bigger audience on youtube ;-)

Those weren't my best runs of the day as the first one you can see I linked the two turns better than the second but the second I carried a bigger drift on exit.

I'm glad you saw it anyway Bob. Towards the end of the day you could see some of the GT4 owners got it and though they couldn't drift as wide they were going faster through the corners sideways rally style and having fun with it. My wife was there too but she's also getting into drifting so generally we were both in the car on circuit all day.

It's a different skill to racetracks but if you fancy having a go then it would be great to link in with you next time.

There is one on December 18th and after that it's January, I'm easy either way.
