I love Doune its probably the best hill in the UK it scares me to death,,,love it. Only problem is the distance from South Wales and the money etc, I only just have enough money for entree fees to do the Midland Championship, Doune is just too much at the moment. Once I get my van kitted out I might do it again in the future as I would hate never to drive it again. I met a great chap David Paterson and his wife on the weekend from Scotland, we helped one another over the weekend, he also races at Doune. So one day yes but unfortunatly not this year.

I had a better weekend in Shelsley and although I was only 3rd ( we were all in the 33 second bracket and 1/2 a second covered us) I was only a few hundredths off by best time and felt the car is going well, I beat all the competitors from Last season but we now have a chap in GT3 Porsche and another chap in a Subaru who we believe is using illegal fuel but we cant prove it yet.
I was told the car had very good commentary and I have had pictures from last year in both programmes. Its going to be very difficult to catch the GT3 but am getting closer each weekend.
Is a shame that I could not do the modifications I wanted over the winter as I think I would have been with the GT3, but as we all now times are hard at the moment but at least I am still racing, a few of last years competitors are out this year due to lack of funds.
Its loton park next and hopefully towing with my Sprinter van, so no more tents....

I went off on the first corner on the third practice,,,,I was leading after the first 2 but also went off at the end of the strait on the second run but missed everything.
The dam car kept locking up on braking ( Looking now its the tyres they are knackered) Its was drying on the third run after lunch and I was going for a reasonable time but nothing heroic. I keep to the very right on the corner so as I brake I am right on the edge or the tarmac, it locked up and I slide off the edge and headed towards the Armco...it hit the Armco with a sickening crunch and slide down it and hit me back onto the road....
When I got out me and the marshal were stunned,,,,there was no damage to the metal bodywork of the car!!! The front bumper has a scrape and the rear mud guard, its the wheels that took all the shock, scraping the edges...the front wheel was out of line but the rear is not to bad at all.
I fitted another bottom arm today and also have a bit of repair to make to the strut, so will do that first so I know I have things as true as I can...I can probably get the wheels strait by adjusting the trackrod ends, but I also want to know why they have moved so far out. So will probably have the have it checked out on a jig...we will see.
I have cancel the next three events some money back to repair the car.....As this year is already ruined and my tyres are almost gone I will try and aim for Shelsley in Aug to see if the car is ok and then I might call it a day for this year.. I will then have more time to get it ready for 2013..I was thinking of selling the Pulsar at the end of the year but I cant let it go like this I want it to be a winner again before I move on.

The brakes were perfect last year never locked up until the very last run of the year, and I have changed nothing except im running on old tyres so I belivee its them. At least I know in the future to make sure I run new tyes each year,,,more bloody expence..lol

My theory has always been, if you don't hit things now and again you're not trying hard enough ;-)
Sorry to hear about the damage Phil, hopefully its just minor and you'll be back out soon. Its always a bit worrying when you hit the car as i found out last year at Wiscombe when the bank jumped out at me

I really should not have gone out so early this year as I did not have the tyres or the money, but after such a succesfull 2011 season I was eager to get back on track...at my age I should have known better...
I am thinking of waiting until August to start again and in the mean time try and get some money together to do the 3ins exhaust and then remap on 100 octane fuel and 1.8bar boost. Then do a few events to see if all is ok so apart from new tyres I will be ready for next season. Will also spend more time trying to get to get a sponcer for 2013 and can kit out my Sprinter Van.

What size wheels do you use and what tyres Phil?Might have some cheap ones if you are interested.
Cheers for that I already have 3 sets of 16in wheels, I run the Kumho track day tyres 205/45 - 16 will only run these in competition I also have a set of Goodyear f1's for the road and wet but they are no good in the dry. Will try and get a tyre sponser for 2013 as I would only use one set a year, but 6 tyres would be perfect as the fronts wear quicker.

just read this phil sorry to hear of your mishap but shit happens when your driving on the edge i guess!
dont sound good though with regard to chassis alignment
hate to be pessimistic but once a cars taken a hit they never seem to handle the same again, thats why i originally scrapped my black car which had alignment issues which i couldnt seem to get resolved

I will hopefully have a bit more time on the weekend to check it out a bit more,,,nothing major is out of line beacuse i has all gone back ok whith not one use of a hammer...lol but I have not set the tracking and cambers etc...so fingers crossed. it just might be the rack at the most.
The old girl is back to her best, I replaced the steering rack and its feeling good again. The old rack is so stiff I cant move it my hand so it must have damaged something in the workings...will probably have a look in it when I have time, also have a local business who repairs them so might be worth a try, to keep as a spare.
I Big thanks to both Bob for getting me a replacement and advice and Danny again for some very handy advice....was a right sod of a job to do..and would say to anybody DONT attemped it withour a 4 post lift, you will get it out ok but putting it back is very very tricky on the garage floor.
I know have 2 months before I am out again so hope to do some mods on the car before then, as luckily the repairs cost me less then anticipated.

Finally got around to having my 3ins exhaust made for the Pulsar...sounds great much deeper and its only 88db so well under the sound limits for competition.
Hope to have the car re-mapped soon then its ready to do the final 3 rounds of the championship. My mapper now has a rolling road so will finaly now what power it puts out...
