How long was each session? How many laps did you do on them and how long is the circuit?

Nice pics by the way 8)

Think im going to re-consider when i come to replacing mine, maybe go for good years this time

Only a short track. Approx 1 mile I think. Very hard on the nearside front's.
Approx 20 min session so gettin in around 20 laps odd laps.
Cars not setup at all and under steer was the issue so really didn't help the tyres in that respect.
Looks like the tread is comin away from the carcus and moving to the outside of the tyre.

Pointing out the blinding obvious  those tyres had overheated. At that point onwards, the tyre wear goes up exponentially. What was the ambient track temperature and what tyre pressures were you running. This both has a big effect on tyre wear but being honest, 5 laps sounds pretty pants. Are the tyres brand new?

Cheers,
jim

After 2 15 min sessions at castle combe my yoko A539's looked way better than those Toyos  And that was pushing the car to the point of sliding on nearly every corner  They had a bit of sidewall wear but thats only to be expected considering its all right handers

And the A539's arent directional either so you can swap them from side to side between sessions on tracks where all the corners are one way 8)

Tyres weren't new (think a year old) with a few pod launches under their belt  and reckon wpuld have done me another 6 months on the road.
Tyre pressures were far too high in retrospect. Didn't drop them down from normal road pressures and I usually put 36psi in so that was a major mistake which i'm sure has led to their demise.
It ended up a really nice day so temps around mid 20's deg C's i'd guess.
Was a good day never the less and as was only half day tarack session was just right to bring to light the points on the car that need attention before doin a full day.

36 psi is not bad for a track day but in the mid 20's this could have risen a lot during use. In the future, try checking them after a run to see what pressure they get too. The tyre did overheat though as the marbles formed prove it. If you see that in the future then give them a break as it will start to kill them very quickly.

I've killed a new set of tyres in 2 track days in average conditions and a set of fronts on a RWD car after an Airfield day in the summer.

A539's are as tough old boots but I wouldn't buy them again for road or track use. Just my opinon.

Well done though Jay for getting out on a track. Good luck with next time.

Cheers Jim. The names Ben  my r's called jay
What tyre's are you recommendin for track use :?:
I'm huntin for a spare set of 17's at the mo (brakes too big for anything smaller 8)) so performance on the road is not gonna be an issue.
But i would like summin thats gonna withstand a few sessions.
I was v happy with my cars performance on the track as held its own and was only runnin 0.6 and 0.7 bar boost due to a small smokey problem

Thanx, Ben

Oh and my bro chesked his pressures straight after 1 session and they were up 10 psi from cold
So guessin mine were more rounded like a bike tyre durin peak track time, rather than a nice flat traction area as they should have been.
Durin the dry sessions i was doing bout 5 pushin laps then lettin everythin cool down (was needed) and did feel tyres go off couple of times.
