Le Mans is a great idea, my stepdad goes every year with the TVR club and always come back with many a tale. get some prices together so people can budget for it. :D

I went few years ago with my brother with the Porsche owners club.
Went in a diesel car so wasn't too bad, although got confused when you get to first roundabout off the ferry and it's all opposite :?
It's really good but sooo f**kin busy and takes ages to queue up for beer (unless its changed)
we camped outside lemans and they did buses every 3 hours or so from campsite to the race, but it would be awesome to camp inside.
Got to see quite a lot of crashes too which was cool and at night time it was great watching the brakes glow red as they braked and all the flames 8)
Would love to go again but would be £££££ in the R and do they do optimax equivalent in france?

Sounds like a top idea!

I've been going pretty much every year since '99. Last year saw the first visit of the Offical Team Datsun(TM).

We had a 300ZX, S14 200SX and my R. Saw lots of 300s and GTOs but not Rs. You get lots of looks in the R as the French don't seem to have any idea what it is.

Petrol is not a problem. Most stations have Super (usually 98 octane) and it usually only a little bit more than unleaded. Just make sure you fill up in day time as the automatic credit card readers don't like British credit cards.

We've pretty much settled on Maison Blanche as the camp site to be at. The circuit is within spitting distance and you can usually rob some of the French electricity to power stereos and lights.

Edd / BenD - If you want need any details about booking give me a shout.

PS I have some piccies of the campsite if anyone's interested. [What do you mean you don't want to look at my holiday snaps!?!]

Im glad to see there is some interest in doin this, would be well cool if we could sort it out!

I have dug out a few contact numbers for tickets and camping, but i dont know what people would want to do

Trackside camping/offsite camping???
How many days? just the 2? or make a long weekend of it??

I found one site www.clubmotorsport.org.uk that is offering a basic package with general entry for £205, thats for camping from the Tuesday 8th June-Monday 14th June, thats with brekkie and dinner, and the odd BBQ, has a bar and live music. Obv the £205 does not include ferry, but does include general admittance.

Ill be ringing Page & Moy, who always do shithot motorsport tours (i used them this year 4 Le Mans) and see what they can do

Ill put up some details tomorrow, unless anyone can do it whilst at work tomorrow?

Cris!!!, if you could get us some details of what you done last year, it would be cool! Maison Blanche sounds a bit too posh 4 me! LOL

Thanks for the interest, hope we can sort summat out!

Cheers

Ben :D

Guys I would suggest avoiding going for the full P&M service.

You can order campsite, grandstand and entrance tickets from the ACO direct (and save £££). If you don't want to do that I would suggest booking the ferry on your own.

We do so each year and save average £50 minimum per person (based on 2 people in a car) and are hoping that by booking through the ACO this will go down even more.

Have a look at

http://www.lemans.org/2003/24auto/pages/club24_gb.shtml

As a guide (from memory) the costs break down like this:

Ferry crossing £120 for two people in a car
Entrance Generale £34
Grandstand ticket £Varies 20-50
Camping Permit £30

This works out to be about £130 - lots cheaper than P&M or MRI.

It only gets cheaper if you join the ACO and book cheaper ferries etc

NB We also usually go down on Mon/Tue/Wed and back the following Monday. You now have to pay an extra £5ish per day you turn up before Wednesday.

Here's a bit more detail -

Campsite - I would recommend either Maison Blanche or Houx Annexe - both have half decent showers and elctricity (if you nick it off the industrial outputs). You can also walk to the track in no-time.

Travelling - We generally go Dover to Dunkirk because it's cheaper and the ferries are full of truckers so you get a nice full english with lots of little kiddies screaming in your ears.

Grandstand - We are a bit split on this one - I favour the Pits grandstand (you can get brillant view at night of the driver swaps by hanging over the railings about the garages at 4am), others like the Michelin stand. I think that Grandstands are essentail as otherwise you cannot have a hope of watching the start or finish. Also the Pits stand is cheaper.

I'm feeling that it might be a good idea to look at a group buy perhaps!?! Anyone up for it?

Well done cris mate!

looks like you know where you are goin and the deals to be had!

Any idea when we would be able to start booking up for tickets/campsites?

Grandstand seats would be good, but lying around on the grass getting proper shitbagged is fun!!

it would be cool if we could get a group buy up together, plenty of time to start saving

Making a good week/long weekend of it would also be a good idea :D

cheers

I would suggest Jan latest - we always end up doing it in Feb/March and having to scratch around for tickets. I've promised myself to get it sorted in Dec/Jan this time so we can get the cheap deals!

Definitely - got to have a wander and stake out the Porsche Curves, Dunlop Bridge and of course the Mulsanne! The fun fair's a laugh too as is blagging your way into VIP tents. Managed to blag our way into Audi's official stand (in 2001 when they still had a factory effort). Good fun drinking some brand of German beer (we had a guy who spoke some German - like five words, luckily one was beer) and then robbing the glasses etc.

Group buy is a top idea - I have a French speaking friend (proper French not the "voulez vous couche avec moi" that I use in the bars...) who we are trying to convince to speak to the ACO about becoming members and making a group booking.

Would be very cool to have a GTiR owners club section to rival the Porsche Owners Club, 300ZX OC, Corvette OC, GT40 (Replica) OC, etc etc etc.

Also going out on the razz in Le Mans City Centre on Friday night after the Drivers Parade is a must

If people are interested I would suggest that we start looking at who's interested (numbers) and what people want to pay for.

E.g. Are you looking at a long tour (Tue/Wed -> Sun/Mon) or just a quick weekend break (Fri -> Sun). For the record we'll be going for the longer option.

SO come on then guys who's up for it :!: :!: :!: :!:
