As Britney Spears once said.... "Oops I did it again"
Yes, had another off at knockhill yesterday....
Afraid my wee car has sustained considerable damage to the drivers side, wing, door, rear quarter panel after making firm contact with the tyre wall.

I was powering out of carlube corner lining myself up to overtake, three cars abreast when we encountered a car stopped having bounced off the tyre wall, sitting on the track sideways right across my path.
Had no where to go and had to take to the grass/mud. At that point I became a passenger and slammed into the tyre wall.
Nobody was hurt but I got a lift back to the medical center by ambulance.

Here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bl9IbWNJNGg

Gutted. Not your fault so nothing that could be done really. Some tool who can't even handle his corsa.

Good thing you were alright, glad to hear the classic line was in there some where "that will polish out".

Worst thing in the world when that’s happens! Hate that feeling of not knowing how much damage there is until you’ve seen it.

Hope its all cosmetic and will be back on the road – lucky not to hit any other cars too
:)

Thanks for your replys!

Yes, I was not very happy. "why me" has come to mind a few times.
I jumped out to check the damage, unhitched the video camera to take some footage but a marshal told me to turn the camera off.

I pressure washed the car down, and took it for a drive. It still drives straight, the steering wheel is still in the correct position (tracking feels correct... )
The tyre wall worked well and absorbed most of the energy.
Obviously, I would have rather not hit anything but very glad it was not another car.

I've left the car at a neighbours (farmer)
Nice large dry barn so that I can get stuck in about it.
I'll take some measurements first and check everything is where it should be.
I need o/s wing and door. Not sure what to do about rear quarter panel.
I'll see if I can model it back into shape.

 Very unfortunate Jesus  .

I'm afraid I don't have any of the spares you're needing this time    .

The rear quarter will defiantly be the hardest thing to fix  .

Just watched the video and their was f*ck all you could of done about that, Where you braking while on th grass though ?, Looked very nasty   .

Maybe if that other bloke is breaking his car you should think about re shelling yours if his is straight enough, If not I'm sure bob could sell you an OK shell.

Watching you defo puts me off anymore track days at knock hill, It's just to small for my liking  .

Nightmare bud, your really putting me off taking my motor up to knockhill , but as said above there's f*ck all you could have done about that.
If your not re-shelling it, speak nicely to my dad, he may manage to sort out the rear quarter for you, fitted one to my mark 2 astra gte a while ago. Depending on how bad it actually is anyway.

I personally wouldnt track my car at knockhill, heard to many nightmare stories plus the tracks a bit small to be opening it up.

Plus to many corsas and generally slow cars there

There is quite a few sheds go to knockhill right enough, it wouldnt be to bad if mine was a track car, but im using it as my daily driver just now, so dont really want to be crashing it on a track.

As you say alot of sheds go which puts me right off, I mean if there cars worth nowt then they wont hesitate to drive like a loon which is just dangerous for anyone else looking to get round in one piece

Oh no!!!
There was not much you can do about that!!
Best thing you can do is remove your rear panel and push out as much of it out as you can? It's not a show car so i would just fix it as best as you can ;-) New door and wing and off you go again :)
If your stuck for any parts just give me a bell.
Take it easy, it's just a car and at least your well ;-)

You've hit the nail on the head there mate  , Thats the exact reason I'm not to keen on taking mine down to knock hill when it's back on the road  .

I'll come down to meets and maybe look out for the top marque track days where the cars are a little more expensive and chav free hopefully ;-)   .

The percentage of people that have accidents is very low.
I would consider my own personal statistics very rare and just unlucky!
The circuit itself is quite tight which can mean close racing at times but it is also quite technical. Both items make it enjoyable for driver and spectator.
I would hate to think that my unfortunate and rare exsperience would prevent performance car owners from using their car as it was designed and having great enjoyment out of it.

I intend to get my car sorted for 22nd Feb and will venture up to Knockhill again and join Trackscotland for what I beleive will be a very enjoyable day.

Hopefully my misfortune has not put people off trackdays as it's a fantactic day out.
It's the safest way for you to drive your car to it's limits. I came off the track at a fair lick of knots without any injury to myself and my car shall live to tell another tail.
Try doing that on the road!

Cheers Jim...
I think the car's still running true.
I'll try to tease out that rear quarter panel. All being well, that and a skim of filler...;-)
