Elvington Trackday

Bookatrack have got an open pitlane trackday on the 5th August for £99.

I thought being an open pitlane it would be a nice low pressure way to get the car and driver back on track and give me the opptortunity to do some settings testing. My car is getting mapped on the 1st August so all being well I'll be attending but wondered who else might be interested.

I've done Elvington before, its a good high speed airfield track and Bookatrack are a professional company who don't tolerate idiots so it'll be a good opportunity for any virgins on here to have a go for as little or as much time as they want. The only downside is Elvington can kill tyres so keep the sessions to 10-15mins at a time or they might over heat and melt. The good thing about an open track is you can pick your moment to go on so if it looks a bit busy you can just hang back and watch.

The easiest way is just to book direct but thought I'd post here first to see if anyone else is interested.

For the virgins out there what equipment would you advise taking i.e. helmet, drivers license, tools etc?

Have got a few things happening the next few months and haven't got the car where i want to prior to testing on a track so im afraid i wont be able to make it, sounds a great opportunity though. How regular are these track days by this company?

Paz, have you seen Elvington? You'll be doing well if you crash into anything but a cone :D

Open pitlane days are quite rare over the summer period as they are normally too popular. I'm less of a fan of sessioned events as it can become a bit of a 20 minute race which is fine when you went it but bad if you don't.

With the open pit lane, there is always someone on a warmup or cool down lap so you are never the slowest and you are never the fastest either. The last time I went there was in my old MR2, there was a guy in an Ultima who would always wait for you to indicate before he overtook you at 1xxmph and would always wave a thank you as he shot by. For me that is what trackday spirit is all about.

You'll need a licence, and can hire helmets, I normally take some tools even if its just a socket set and a couple of screwdrivers. This time I'll go a bit more armed though as I was thinking of having 15 mins on, fiddle with handling and the repeat to better suss some of the high speed characteristics of the R

In terms of car readiness, oil and water levels have got to be tip top and checked through out the day. Your brakes and tyres have to be reasonable as if they start to fade it just gets frustrating. Performance or ultimate handling just isn't a factor, neither is track times or experience, £99 for a fun cruise in the R, it'll cost more in petrol

Sales pitch over ;-)

I think car car went off the track through the fence on the handling circuit at TOTB either last year or the one before.

Elvington tests for noise levels too, so don't be too loud.
There's also a court case going on, raised by the locals, but I don't know the specifics about this.

Just realised, it would help it I put in the website address:

www.bookatrack.com

I'm provisionally booked in for Saturday 5th August at Elvington in my 1.4LX Sunny.... at least that's what it says on the back

When you look at the lineup, like I said, I won't be the fastest but I won't be the slowest either, should be a good day out.

I'll do a dance to the rain god too to upset the caterhams and to save the tyres :-D

Well im deffinatly going to this! Its my first time so im very nervous but very exited at the same time!

Does anyone else fancy this?

The noise limit at Elvington for this particular day is 1.5db, theres loads of run off space and an open pitlane so you can spend as much time on and off the track as you please.

Stu, have you got Dan's phone number? There is only one place left. My car at best will get mapped Thursday but knowing my luck will probably slip again. My other cars might be a luagh on a track but a bit unecessary and defeating the object of having the pulsar.

Even, better, if you've got his number call him ASAP.

I'm resigning myself to Oulton in Septmeber now :(

Cnut!!! :x:x

Why is the path of the R never easy. Over a month in planning and still my car cannot get sorted in time.

Being positive, who's for any of these:

Elvington is easy, cheap but simple and kills tyres
Anglesey is what they used to use on 5th gear, good for beginners and experienced a like but rarely over 90mph
Oulton Park is a fantastic track but the international circuit can be daunting as a first timer (sounds impressive though)

Forgot to point out, the only open pitlane in September with Bat is Oulton but we will save on tyres and petrol too from track.

I might see what Easytrack have on.
