Just wondering as im thinking of booking the Pulsar for Snetterton in March but im still on standards. Or am I looking at a death wish?? The brakes dont feel anywhere near as bad as my 11Turbo when I went on track with that, and general driving they seem fine, but I havent driven the car hard for long periods of time yet.

The brakes will be lucky to last one lap!!

I've cooked my standard brakes with just "fast road" driving....

Yeah 1 lap and they'll be fooked

At castle combe if you really push it you can nearly do 3/4 of a lap before they get too hot and fade. That was with standard brakes and mintex 1144 pads

get some red stuff pads and you might get away with it.my old disks went blue with the heat but didnt fade.

yep redstuff pads and 5.1 fluid then they will be ok.
but you will however end up warping your discs, when hard on the stoppers, it will be like abs on all the time, and give your right foot the hippy hippy shakes lol

Im either gonna try to get an A-Frame sourced and Tow the 11Turbo there, but I would loved to have tried the Pulsar on the track.

As far as I understand isit more the Calipers that are the issue and uprating the discs and pads wont really make a difference, or am I wrong? if uprating the pads and discs will actually be worthwhile (and fluid as you say bob), then maybe ill go that route and have some fun with the ol beasty :D. For general driving and blaps here and there I dont find them to much of an issue, but coming down that back straight at Sneterton I do wanna be able to slow down a bit :D

if you are struggling with dosh a bit, just buy some redstuff pads and cross drilled discs, which you can get on ebay for under £70 a pair, they will be ok for most trackdays, but you will have to break that little bit earlier, rather than jumping on them 50m before a bend;-)

Still waiting on some shims!
I personally wouldn't even think about going round a track on the standard brakes. They WILL fade out on you very quickly to the point that they won't stop the car. You'll either end up in a wall or crashing into the back of someone!

I've seen a very nice Skyline in the wall due to brake fade

I had my car at Knockhill last year on standard brakes with red stuff pads. Had to come in every couple of laps to let them cool down.

it all depends on the dircuit, thats the deciding factor.

snetterton has long straights, so brakes will have a fair time to cool,
cadwell has long straights with mostly sweeping bends.... likewise
silverstone.....likewise
donnongton....likewise

brands.....very heavy on brakes
lydden....likewise
knockhill.....likewise
rockingham indy circuit....likewise

oulton has a bit of everything, so they may be ok!

Pretty much, the whole set up is crap  A set of uprated pads and discs will probably be around £150, all that will do is give you a bit more time before they fade again (probably another 1/4 lap  ) you'd be better off putting the cash towards a set of 4 pots and bigger discs if your serious about doing trackdays ;-)

Good advise guys thanks, maybe I should just take the 11 to Snet and when funds allow buy some nice 4pots :D. Thats the only thing that seems to let the car down is the brakes.

if alot of guys are still using the standard brakes a mate of mine has a contact who makes pads to order and they are nothing short of incredible
on the evo 1-3 they have a twin pot set up all the pads i had used were fading like u wouldnt believe but as soon as i used these new pads i never needed to uprate the brakes
they are £110 a set but they are incredible im gonna get a set made hopefully soon to test on gtir
the only issue is the smaller disc on gtir but ill get a trial set made and see how it goes
to give u an idea i had willwood 4 pots on gtir and these pads on standard setup on the evo and i would have the evo setup everytime but when i have some pads to try ill report back
