Compression on stock motor cold should be between 165 -135 with throttle wide open on testing. 135psi i would expect to see a little smoke out the exhaust in my experience. Test it cold, just easier.

Go twin plate and do hydraulic release bearing conversion. problem solved.

I'd hope it will be cheaper to get a full assembled box second hand from the Uk than buying the new gear set and assembling it in NZ. :-) I agree it is a sad day that we have to part our GTIR's to move them but it is a sharp reality these days.
