Bogdan's elbows

The flanges were machined flat and during welding bolted high tensile bolts so that they move.
I believe that the warping is minimal.....as I have checked each and every one of the elbows.
Sorry....

I bought a new downpipe from somewhere else (IE not one of Bogdans) and the flange was warped by 0.8mm. Bolting it on the turbo to the point of shearing the bolts wouldn't close the gap, so they need to be machined flat after welding.

Depends on material etc if I had bought that downpipe I would of took it back. I seen where you tig one side only ie front or rear or oppersits and not all the way round which pulls it straight even on thin flanges. That was stu AAS who done that and is well known from standard to kit cars to high end American cars. Welds for race teams etc

I don't know what you would call minimal or what you checked them with.

Straightest thing I have to hand at the moment is a steel brembo caliper adapter bracket.

I'll have to check mine now; there's still time to machine it because I haven't bought gaskets yet.

I didn't see a problem with mine i checked it on the turbo without gasket, i've used the thicker gasket all seems ok maybe i was just lucky.

I am a bit surprised that they are warped like that. I haven't checked mine yet but best drop it off to the machinist. More expense!

Err so rebuilding engine all I need to do now is fit the turbo, got the elbow on offered up to block then noticed you can't have aircon with the elbow :rage: I gather that's why on your originals you had a slightly flatter edge on the elbow to pass the pump...

I'm keeping aircon so unfortunetly back to standard elbow..

Most people have ditched the aircon by now.

BTW is your engine mount rubber split or is it just the picture?

^ Split, it's on the list for replacement, good spotting though!! Same as the front stabiliser mount, that's shot..

I like the aircon, not after big power but I plan on modding the elbow so for now Whytie I keeping it, planning on slicing the bit that's hitting the pump out and tigging a flat piece in. It should retain most of the 3" but definetly improve over the stock elbow.

I never realised how close the stock elbow is to the pump tbh

Could always slice a section of the pump off :tearsofjoy:

Could hit Bogdan's elbow with a hammer until it clears, it will still flow better than the stock one even with a small dent.
I was going to suggest the same thing (it's the kind of thing they do on Roadkill all the time), but wasn't sure that the radius and thickness might make it resistant to all but the heaviest of hammers.
