Had a great day out yesterday at the first round of the ANECCC Autocross Championship. This is proper entry level motorsport, friendly and accessible.

Some great cars there too, including 180bhp autograss type buggies. Those things fly and sound fantastic. And a GTIR and other 4wd cars!

To someone that has never been, its a 3/4 mile lap on grass, usually a mixture of corners, average speed 50-60mph. Four cars stage at the same time, competition is against the clock. Any type of car is eligible, providing its caged and has basic safety stuff to MSA spec. There is even a junior calss for 14 year olds upwards.

Spectating is £6 a car entry. (£1.20 a head if you five up). The food van sells tea at 50p and burgers at £1.20. Or bring a barby and flask.

What's not to like?

Get yourselves there..........

Canny. Class 6 get to run singly as they are road based cars. Track initially water logged in the bottom parts, and it rained a splash here and there all day. Sunny between though.
Ibiza quick but suspension totally under damped, so jumped around. 5.2 secs behind leading class 5 car on first heats, about 1.5 secs per lap. Happy with that.
Second run 1 sec slower due to rain splash. 3rd run had to complete on 3 wheels as puncture for 1 lap. Still 5 secs faster than run 2, so track drying. 4th run quicker still.
So;
1. Needs some suspension
2. LHD not a massive problem
3. Road cars are heavy.
Finals made some great watching

LOL. Kind words.
August sat 23rd at causey is charity day motorsport on grass. Before the main competitive autocross event on sunday.
£10 a run gets you a taster of autocross. Non competitive. All to charity.
Johnny, bring your hat.........

How do the classes stack up for Autocross?
I've been getting my fix of grass roots motorsport through hard surface Autosolos for the past few years.

Few changes for this year. A junior class for 14 year old plus. Great idea. An entry level class for non tuned modded road cars. Then a split on cc's for the 2wd racers, unlimited mods. A class for buggies (bike engines, awesome) One for four wheel drive and one for MOT'd cars (rally cars usually). Think there's a diesel class this year too.
My mk1 runs in the unlimited 2L + class
